10:50 Worship Participants Meet in the Fellowship Hall

1st Sunday in Lent Worship Service Opening

10:50 – Worship Participants meet in the Fellowship Hall – Steve DeFields Gambrel – preaching Cynthia Jewett – Worship Leader Trustees Elders

Elders are to “check in” with Steve DeFields Gambrel to talk about participation other than preaching the sermon. Elders also “check in” with Cynthia Jewett if there are any special announcements.

The “Christmas Tree” should be on a stand in front and center of the baptistery. The table should be bare. The Epiphany banners still hang in the chancel. The Chancel lights are turned off.

11:00 – Cynthia enters the sanctuary and delivers the Greetings and Announcements.

At the end of the announcements, Cynthia proclaims, “ Today is the First Sunday in Lent. With the help of today’s serving elders and our Board of Trustees, let us prepare ourselves. Please breathe deeply and find the quiet center as we prepare to worship our God.

11:05 – Silence for one minute. Then the song “Come to Jesus” begins to play. (Bruce Peck will man the CD player)

Worship Participants enter the sanctuary to the song “Come to Jesus” Steve and Cynthia take their seats. The Elders bring in the candles, flowers and communion elements and begin decorating the table. The trustees will take down the Epiphany Banners and put up the Lent Banners. The trustees will “fling” the purple drapery and cut all the branches off of the Christmas Tree. Then they will cut the top 1/3 of the tree and lash it to the bottom 2/3 of the tree to form a cross and then drape purple cloth over the cross. They will then “fold up” the tree cuttings in a bedsheet and carry them out of the sanctuary. The elders light the candles on the Lord’s table. All of this is done in silence as the music plays.

11:10 – When the music stops, the call to worship begins.
