In Philadelphia a friend named Mark would always protect Darrell from any bullies due to him being small and skinny, now as a new freshman at Bluford high school Darrell is afraid he will be picked on by other kids because he has no friends in this unfamiliar territory. Then one day in a supermarket he sees a girl that he will be going to school with and he begins to talk to her in attempt of making a friend before school starts. He finds out the girls name is Amber Lynn and that they are both freshmen at the same school. They eventually become friends after that day. Once the first day arrived of school there was a boy named Tyray that started to pick on Darrell. He was so afraid he even started paying Tyray $10 every Fridays. To top it all off he finds out Amber likes him but Tyray likes her too so he is scared to ask her out because then he might get beat up by his bully. After months of living in fear, Darrell is faced with a huge decision. He can either keep on running from his bullies or find some way to fight back. So Darrell decides to join the wrestling team and he makes it. He proves to have not much talent in wrestling but after sometime quickly gets a hang of it. Now with the ability to protect himself he ask Amber out to the school dance with him which Tyray was going to be at so he knew he would be getting in some trouble. When school began again after break it was Friday Darrell went to school without paying Tyray like usual. In first period Tyray angrily asked Darrell where his money was but before Darrell could answer the teacher walked in and Tyray stayed quiet in fear of getting in trouble. Later during lunch Tyray found his opportunity to get payback by starting a fight with Darrell right in the middle of everyone. Darrell for the first time stands up to his bully on his own by using what he learned from wrestling to take down Tyray, where he starts crying and shouting “Darrell broke my wrist!” he was so embarrassed. They both got sent to the principal office where they were going to receive their punishments but Darrell told the principal what had been going on for months and the principal let him go with a warning and immediately suspended Tyray from school. That following week Darrell goes back to school feeling happy and joyful that he doesn’t have to worry about someone bothering him for money or threatening his life he can finally be in peace.
