Lab: Fortune Teller Fish

In this lab, you will investigate if your Fortune Teller Fish is alive! There are eight characteristics that potential life forms must exhibit in order to be considered alive. Use your index, and look up the following term: Life, characteristics of… I have written out the terms for each characteristic. You will write in the description for each characteristic. Then, you will design a simple test or supply the result of an observation of the fish and give a yes, no, maybe, or not-testable for each characteristic. Then, at the bottom of the table, state whether or not the fish is alive (or not) and why you believe this. Characteristic Description Result of Test of Life or Observation: Yes, no, maybe, or not-testable

Alive or Not? Explain: There is no one exact number of steps for the scientific method. With this written, there are some items found in all scientific investigation loosely described as the “Scientific Method”. Using your index, look up Scientific Method(s) and use the pages given to help you complete the following:

Beginning with: 1 - “Ask a Question” List the other necessary parts of any Scientific Method. There are a total of five items. The last one has the word Report in it… 2 –

5. What is data? What are the two types of data that may be collected?

Place the fish in the palm of one of your hands and its movements will indicate:

Moving head – jealousy, moving tail – indifference, moving head and tail – in love, curling sides – fickle, turns over – false, motionless – dead one, and curls up entirely – passionate. Have fun using the fish to explain the mysteries of your heart, mind, and spirit!
