Job Purpose:

To assess and report winter fell top conditions from the summit of Helvellyn. To provide instruction on winter mountain skills.

Principal Accountabilities

1 Based at Glenridding, assess the winter fell top conditions from the summit area of Helvellyn, or equivalent, using own agreed equipment, in order to provide information relating to snow and ice conditions. 2 Ensure that the information on the fell top conditions is reported to the appropriate Weatherline recorder and the met office at Manchester, to the time and in the format specified.

3 Provide information and advice to other fell users to ensure safe and responsible use of the mountain and engage with the public, media and VIP visitors to promote the service and encourage financial and other support through the use of social media, personal meetings, attendance at events and accompanying pre-arranged visits.

4 To identify and carry out basic rights of way maintenance on the routes, and report back to the Ranger Manager on any issues encountered outside the scope of this work.

5 To run summer, winter and other mountaineering skills courses as required to help subsidise the Fell Top Assessors and information services.

6 To be a brand ambassador for the Lake District National Park and agreed sponsors associated with the authority and the weatherline service.

6 Responsible for meeting individual performance targets as agreed with post holders manager

7 Supporting the culture of cross sectional working, encouraging a culture of project work focusing on the objectives of the Authority as a whole. Actively participating or leading in projects and corporate tasks as required.

8 Reporting on such performance, management and operational information as requested by the post-holders manager.

Job Evaluation This role profile has been compiled to allow the job to be evaluated using the Greater London Provincial Council Job Evaluation scheme as adopted by the Authority.
