THE NORTHERN KY SPORTS HALL OF FAME WILL INDUCT NEW MEMBERS INTO ITS ORGANIZATION ON WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 19, 2008. AT 1:00 P.M. THE PUBLIC IS INVITED TO ATTEND THE CEREMONY THAT WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE VILLA HILLS CIVIC CLUB HALL, 729 ROGERS ROAD VILLA HILLS KENTUCKY.
JOHN W. BUTLER – FLORENCE KY, GRADUATED FROM SIMON KENTON HIGH SCHOOL IN 1957 WHERE HE LETTERED IN BASKETBALL, BASEBALL AND TRACK. HE WAS SELECTED TO THE ALL NKAC BASKETBALL TEAM IN 1956 AND 1957, COURIER-JOURNAL ALL 9TH REGIONAL TEAM AND ALL STATE HONORABLE MENTION IN 1957. HE AVERAGED 22.5 POINTS PER GAME IN 1957. HE RECEVIED BASKETBALL SCHOLARSHIP TO CUMBERLAND COLLEGE. JOHN WAS INDUCTED INTO THE SIMON KENTON HALL OF FAME.
JON CAMPBELL – UNION KY. GRADUATED FROM SCOTT HIGH SCHOOL AND NORTHERN KY UNIVERSITY WHERE HE PLAYED BASKETBALL. JON HAS BEEN A BASKETBALL OFFICAL FOR 13 YEARS HE HAS WORKED HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE GAMES. HE HAS WORKED THE 9TH REGION TOURNAMENT AND KHSAA BOYS AND GIRLS STATE TOURNAMENT AT RUPP ARENA AND WESTERN KY UNIV. IN 2007 HE WAS NOMINATED FOR BASKETBALL OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR FOR KHSAA HIS GREATEST THRILL WAS GETTING THE PHONE CALL TO WORK THE BOYS STATE TOURNAMENT AND WALKING ON TO RUPP ARENA FLOOR FOR THE FIRST TIME AND MOST EXCITING DECISION WAS THE INTENTIONAL FOUL SITUATION IN 2008 BETWEEN MARION COUNTY AND SHELBY COUNTY.
ALLEN FELDHAUS – MAYSVILLE KY. GRADUATED FROM BOONE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL AND LETTERED IN 4 SPORTS FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL, BASEBALL AND TRACK. ALLEN ATTENDED UNIV OF KY AND LETTERED IN BASKETBALL AND BASEBALL FOR 3 YEARS. IN BASEBALL HE MADE ALL S.E.C. TEAM AS A CATCHER AND HIT 750 IN 1961. IN BASKETBALL HE AVERAGED BETTER THAN 6 POINTS PER GAME IN THE 1961 SEASON. HE PLAYED MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL FOR 3 YEARS AND BEGAN COACHING BOYS BASKETBALL AT RUSSELL COUNTY FOR 10 YEARS. HE THEN COACHED AT MASON COUNTY WINNING 9 DISTRICT TITLES AND 4 REGIONAL TITLES. HIS 1981 TEAM WAS A RUNNERUP IN THE SWEET SIXTEEN. THE FOLLOWING YEAR HIS TEAM WAS UNDEAFTED DURING THE REGULAR SEASON, HE WAS NAMED COACH OF YEAR IN 1982 AND 1986 ALLEN HAD 9 CONSECUTIVE 20 WIN SEASONS AND THREE SEASONS OF 30 OR MORE VICTORIES AND HE COACHED FOUR TEAMS TO THE KY STATE TOURNAMENT. HE RETIRED WITH 512 WINS AND 210 LOSSES
GILBERT GELBKE – NAPLES FL HE ATTENDED FT THOMAS ELEMENTARY AND HIGHLANDS HIGH SCHOOL. HE WENT TO THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY. DURING HIS DAYS AT HIGHLANDS HIGH SCHOOL HE BECAME INTERESTED IN FOOTBALL AND TRACK, HOWEVER. A CAREER IN FOOTBALL WAS CUT SHORT BY AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT. HE BEGAN A CAREER AS AN OFFICIAL IN FT THOMAS JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUES IN 1968 AND CONTINUED OFFICIATING AT ALL LEVELS OF HIGH SCHOOL FOR 12 YEARS. IN 1973 BEGAN HIS CAREER AS A COLLEGE FOOTBALL OFFICIAL AND IS STILL ACTIVE AND ALSO HAS OFFICIATED PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL IN THE ARENA FOOTBALL LEAGUE. HE CONSIDERS THE HIGHLIGHT OF HIS CAREER OFFICATING THE 100TH ARMY-NAVY GAME DECEMBER 4, 1999 WHERE HE TOSSED THE COIN TO BEGIN THE GAME. THAT COIN IS NOW ON DISPLAY AT THE VFW WAR MEMORIAL MUSEUM IN WASHINGTON D.C.
RONALD L. TARVIN – ALEXANDRIA KY. GRADUATED FROM CAMPBELL COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL IN 1960 WERE HE LETTERED FOUR YEARS IN THREE SPORTS FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL AND BASEBALL. AS A CATCHER HE AVERAGED OVER 500 HIS SENIOR YEAR. AT THE AGE OF 18 HE SIGNED A CONTRACT WITH THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES, HE ALSO HAD OFFERS FROM BOSTON, KANSAS CITY AND EIGHT OTHER MAJOR LEAGUE CLUBS. THE PHILLIES GAVE HIM A BONUS AND GUARANTEED FOUR YEARS OF COLLEGE. HE WENT TO COLLEGE IN THE OFF SEASON. HIS FIRST ASSIGNMENT WAS JOHNSON CITY TENNESSEE OF THE APPALACHIAN LEAGUE. HIS SECOND SEASON IN 1961 WAS WITH THE DOTHAN ALABAMA PHILLIES OF THE ALABAMA-FLORIDA LEAGUE IN 1962 HE WAS WITH THE BAKERSFIELD BEARS OF THE CALIFORNIA LEAGUE. HIS LAST YEAR OF BASEBALL WAS PLAYED IN MIAMI FL WITH THE MIAMI MARLINS. INJURIES BECAME WORSE AND UNDER DOCTORS ADVICE HE LEFT BASEBALL AND FINISHED COLLEGE.. HE PASSED AWAY IN 1983 AT THE AGE OF FORTY.
GUEST SPEAKER FOR THE CEREMONY WILL BE RANDY MARSH, MEMBER OF THE MAJOR LEAGUE UMPIRE STAFF SINCE 1982, WERE HE HAS WORKED ALL-STAR GAMES, DIVISION SERIES PLAYOFFS, LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES AND WORLD SERIES. RANDY GRADUATEDD FROM HOLMES HIGH SCHOOL AND ATTENDED THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY.
