September News from The Gospel Echoes

With three families involved in a ministry, the current state of affairs can quickly move between being somewhat “sane” to seemingly “frantic.” As stated earlier on our website, all three of us are involved in employment outside the group… well all four us…we sometimes forget Wavery and his many responsibilities. He is the “sane” in our sometime “frantic” world. So, since our son needed a “newsletter” for this webpage project, why not do a feature on Wavery. Here goes…

Wavery fell into his current responsibilities as soundtech and driver by default… or did he?

When Wavery’s wife Renota joined The Gospel Echoes in 1981, there were three young children at home. Many times Wavery stayed home to care for the children because most every week the group was often singing Friday through Sunday. The children were also involved in school and sports which required a lot of time. Also during this same time, Renota decided to return to school…4 nights a week…for four years!

Wavery stepped up to the plate becoming mother and father, coach (really! He coached Little League teams during this same time), and husband. He became encourager, supporter, cook, housekeeper…all the expected roles of a husband and father. He completed these responsibilities in a mighty way all while working a fulltime job himself.

During these “frantic” times, Wavery’s cool outlook on life prevailed. Renota finished college, no sport or school event was ever missed, all because Wavery was there through it all. Oh, we need to mention that he hunted and fished feverishly during this time as well…every spare minute he got!

We’re not real sure when he actually started running the sound system because it just happened. He would provide feedback from the audience (when he finally got time to accompany us on the road) as the sound controls were onstage. This soon changed and we eagerly turned all sound operations over to him. He has missed maybe one trip in all the years as our soundtech and driver. You see, he works for a utility company and is on-call 24/7/365. The one time we went without him was a fiasco. We couldn’t get our newfangled speakers back into their case.

Wavery is very direction-oriented and never forgets where we’ve been. He also knows where he’s going. He is a Deacon in his church and teaches Sunday School. He is faithful to his family, his church, The Gospel Echoes, and to God. He is a very important part of our group. The Gospel Echoes could not do with him! Default? No! Wavery’s work was in God’s plan all along!
