On-going NTA activities
Despite it being the off-season, the Nunavik Tourism Association has been quite busy through the winter and spring of 2007. Work on a number of projects started in the fall continues, and a few new projects have been added to the line-up. Some of these projects are listed below with brief descriptions:
Nunavik Official Tourist Guide, 2007–2008 This year’s tourist guide is hot off the presses. As is the case every year, the Nunavik Tourism Association is ensuring its distribution throughout Nunavik and to everyone who contacts our offices, and Tourisme Québec has added the new publication to its extensive distribution network. Contact the NTA, if you would like to receive copies of the guide.
Website development Upgrading work on the Nunavik Tourism Association’s website is continuing at a good pace. The English version of the site is nearing completion. An enhanced appearance and lots of new photos to communicate the beauty of the region are expected to impress web surfers and generate renewed interest in Nunavik as a tourism destination. The new site should be on line later this summer, so take a look and let us know what you think.
Information brochures Late in the spring, the Nunavik Tourism Association released re-prints of two of its popular information brochures: the angler’s guide to Nunavik as well as the Kuujjuaq www.nunavik-tourism.com 1-888-594-3424 Friendly, beautiful and wild. Spring-Summer 2007 information brochure and town map. As well, an information brochure is being developed with tourism players from Tasiujaq to showcase that community’s new hotel, local operators and other attractions.
North to Nunavik – DVD If you haven’t already seen this DVD, you must! In partnership with the Kativik Regional Government and Arqsaniit Productions, the Nunavik Tourism Association started distributing this video production in January. The DVD captures a number of awesome images of Nunavik and brings them together with some authentic traditional and modern music from the region. To order copies, contact us at the NTA office. A preview will also be available on the NTA’s revamped website.
Laminated photos for Nunavik hotels Beginning last year, the Nunavik Tourism Association undertook a project to supply each of Nunavik’s community hotels with a series of quality laminated photographs, highlighting the local area, to be displayed in guest reception areas. Five communities received their laminated photos in 2006–2007 and the remaining communities will be reached this year.
Co-operative Tourisme Québec TV advertising project The Nunavik Tourism Association has embarked on a three-year co-operative television advertising project entitled Experience Grande Nature. Footage will be collected throughout the summer and the NTA expects its first TV ad to be ready for launch in the US market late in 2007.
Hunting and fishing DVD project In order to assist outfitters with their marketing efforts, the Nunavik Tourism is developing with Steve MacInnis (Adventures North) and Bob May (Arqsaniit Productions) a video promotional tool that will show potential hunters and anglers the incredible opportunities offered by the NTA’s hunting and fishing outfitter members.
For more information about these and other Nunavik Tourism Association projects, contact us at the NTA office.

Tourism Human Resources Development Plan / Trend and Opportunity Study The Kativik Regional Government is expected to release very shortly the results of a human resources planning exercise being carried in co-operation with the Makivik Corporation and the consulting firm Pure Cobalt.
Aurora Borealis winter tourism For roughly a year now the Nayumivik Landholding Corporation (Kuujjuaq) has been working with a consultant to develop local winter tourism products that showcase Northern Lights for a Japanese market. It is hoped that a familiarization for Japanese wholesalers and media can be organized in the fall.
Airport terminal construction in Kuujjuaq This summer, Transport Canada and the Kativik Regional Government will continue to oversee the construction of a new terminal at the airport in Kuujjuaq. The new facility is expected to greatly improve circulation at the airport especially during the busy outfitting months. The Nunavik Tourism Association and Parks Nunavik are planning to operate an information centre at the terminal with print, photo and video material available.
Nappaluk family documentary This past March a German film crew travelled to Kangiqsujuaq to collect footage for a documentary being produced on the Nappaluk family. One of the aims of the documentary will be to compare how Inuit used to live and how they live today through images of winter mussel picking and other traditional activities. The Nunavik Tourism Association was proud to assist with this project by contributing to the film crew’s transportation costs.
Promotional materials The Nunavik Tourism Association has lots of new items available including caps, pins, fishing lures, postcards, t-shirts, golf shirts and hoodies. Drop by the NTA office and check things out!
