Rachel Carson is undoubtedly one of the most influential and widely-known women in America. The use of pesticides and insecticides has an overwhelming effect on the environment, and Carson is quick to appoint these problems in her novel Silent Spring. Through Carson’s famous work, the reader is presented with an intelligent and confident way of presenting her argument. Furthermore, she was very courageous in her effort to expose governments and businesses for their part in producing inaccurate information on the danger of pesticides. In addition, Carson writes in a way that the “average Joe” can understand the effects these pesticides and insecticides are having on not only our ecosystem but also humans. Through Carson’s attentive writing and understanding of the problem at hand, her book Silent Spring opened eyes and allowed readers to have a clearer understanding of the effects of pesticides and insecticides.
