Agency Information: The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) provides supportive, preventive, protective, public health and intervention services that protects the public health and assists our customers in meeting their needs; and that assist families in providing for the developmental, health and safety needs of their children. The mission for the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC), within which this position is located, is to develop and deliver services to preserve, protect, and promote the health and well-being of the citizens of Maine. The Tobacco and Substance Use Prevention and Control Program goal with the Maine CDC is to address and prevent tobacco and substance use in Maine.
Job Duties : You will provide grant and programmatic support to the Clinical Interventions and Data Team with the Tobacco and Substance Use Prevention and Control Program. You will be responsible for planning, developing, organizing and conducting health promotion interventions to improve public health; developing and disseminating health education information; and providing technical advice and assistance to statewide and community agencies and departmental staff in various health promotion related programs. This includes the monitoring of supported contractor work and the development of systems to ensure smooth grant and program implementation as it relates to clinical interventions with tobacco and substance use. You will be the primary contact for program specific initiatives including: Providing oversight of the Tobacco helpline and nicotine replacement therapy initiatives including contract oversight, providing training and technical assistance, and completing federal grant reporting requirements for these services. Providing leadership with the Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) initiative. This includes collaboration with other state agencies, statewide stakeholders, medical professionals, and community prevention and treatment providers. It also encompasses providing training and technical assistance statewide on this initiative. Collaborating with other state level staff to implement strategies related to the tobacco and substance exposed infants and children initiative including facilitating the state level steering committee and spreading awareness (using existing messages) about substance use during pregnancy in an effort to prevent substance exposure to infants/children. Providing training and technical assistance on the Student Intervention and Reintegration Program in collaboration with contracted services for this program. Minimum Requirements: A Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Community Health Education, Health Education and two (2) years’ experience in community or health education program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation. Directly related work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. Preference will be given to candidates with experience specific to tobacco and substance use.
