Wanted Parent Governors
School governors are people who want to make a positive contribution to children’s education. The governing body has a key role in the development and oversight of the school. It is governors who hold the main responsibility for finance in schools, and who work with the head teacher to make the tough decisions about balancing resources.
The governing body does not get involved with the day to day running of the school which is the responsibility of the Head or fundraising.
We have six meetings a year and some governors also attend committee meetings eg regarding curriculum or finance. Training is available both introductory and for more specialised topics.
We have two vacancies for parent governors as recently, Mary … and John ….. left the governing body and we thank them for their time and contribution.
If you are a parent of a pupil at the school would you like to know more about the role? To help you I will be pleased invite you to attend a governing body meeting as an observer, the next meeting is Tuesday March 15th at 7pm.
Or you may prefer to speak to our current parent governors AAAAAAA, BBBBB, CCCCC , or to speak to the School Office or contact me for a chat about the role.
We look forward to hearing from you.
XXXXXX Chair of governing body
Email tel A Cameo School Governor January 2011 When first asked if I would consider becoming a school governor my first thoughts were what I could bring to the role. I had no knowledge of modern day education or schooling. My career had been in banking where I was a Managing Director of a wholesale bank in the City of London responsible for in excess of £2billion funds. I was the Director and Senior Dealer trading in UK and US wholesale money markets and financial futures However, I was persuaded to take on the role and with my career background of finance and senior management I was placed on the “Finance and Premises Committee” from the start. I believe with my extensive knowledge of finance, budget control, risk assessment and business experience at senior level I can play a vital role in keeping the school finances in good order. With healthy finances the school, teachers and ultimately the children benefit enormously. I have been a governor for approximately two years and am quickly learning the education side of the role. With help from a very experienced Chair and courses available the knowledge gained will enable me to increase my contribution as a governor. I strongly believe that the wider career experience of the members of a governing body can only enhance the quality of the school. Local Authority Governor
