Name: Position: GCSE English Tutor Responsible to: Schools Provision Manager
Purpose & aim To plan and deliver high quality teaching, learning, assessment and tutorial support to ACT Schools GCSE English cohort, maximising opportunities for achievement across all academies.
Key duties and responsibilities
Professional Attributes: Have high expectations of learners with commitment to ensuring they achieve their full educational potential; establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships. Communicate effectively with learners, colleagues, parents and carers to convey timely and relevant information about attainment, progress and well-being. Be able to evaluate own performance and commit to opportunities for professional development. Demonstrate a creative and constructively critical approach to innovation; adapting practice where benefits and improvements are identified.
Professional Knowledge & Understanding: Hold a relevant teaching qualification and have had experience in the delivery of GCSE English Language. Have a good and up-to-date knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them, including how to personalise learning to provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their full potential. Know the assessment requirements and arrangements for the subjects/curriculum areas they teach; including those relating to public examinations and qualifications. Know a range of approaches to assessment, including the importance of formative assessment. Know how to use local and national statistical information to evaluate the effectiveness of their teaching, monitoring the progress of their learners with the aim of raising attainment. Know and understand the legal requirements, national and local guidance regarding safeguarding requirements of learners engaged with the ACT Schools alternative curriculum.
Professional Skills: Be able to develop a varied and engaging English curriculum catering for KS4 learners on GCSE provision as well as supporting the wider team in developing literacy resources Deliver challenging, well-organised lessons and sequences of lessons using an appropriate range of teaching strategies and resources, including online/e-learning, meeting learner needs and taking count of diversity, equality and inclusion. Manage the learning of individuals and groups effectively, modifying teaching appropriately to suit the stage of the lesson and the needs of the learners therein. Teach engaging and motivating lessons informed by well grounded expectations of learners, underpinned by the learner standards. Make effective use of observation, assessment, monitoring and recording strategies as a basis for setting challenging learning objectives and monitoring learner progress and attainment. Establish a safe and purposeful learning environment which allowing learners to feel safe and sufficiently confident to make an active contribution to learning and ACT Schools. Manage learner behaviour constructively by establishing and maintaining a clear and positive framework for classroom discipline, in line with ACT Learner Standards Schools’ Behaviour Policy. To adhere to and promote ACT’s environmental practices. Any other duties as requested by your Coordinator or Manager, which may be necessary from time to time.
Desirable: Team Teach trained or willingness to learn. Relevant experience of working with learners in alternative environments. Experience of working with learners with EBD, ASD, ADHD, ADD and ALN.
Personal and other duties and responsibilities 1. To actively keep updated with the company’s services and programmes. 2. To develop yourself by attending courses, meetings, training events, workshops and seminars, in order to not only develop yourself but also the company. 3. To demonstrate clear written and verbal communication skills including report writing skills. 4. To be highly self-motivated and organised. 5. To ensure effective customer care skills. 6. A recognition and regard for observing confidentiality. 7. The capacity to work as part of a team. 8. An ability to work on own initiative and meet set timescales. 9. General housekeeping duties. 10. To display ACT core values at all times.
