An Enchanting Season of Christmas and New Year Experiences for all the Family Awaits at The Peninsula Shanghai
’Tis the season to be jolly … and The Peninsula Shanghai is inviting guests and Shanghai residents to share a season of unforgettable festive experiences and world-class hospitality. Throughout December, The Peninsula Shanghai is decorated with colourful lights and ornaments and a magnificent Christmas tree. An outdoor skating rink offers fun for both experienced and novice skaters, and the hotel’s restaurants have entered the festive spirit by preparing a diverse menu of dinners, brunches and parties to celebrate this joyous time of year.
This year, The Peninsula Shanghai has teamed up with the six historic properties and brands of Waitanyuan – No. 1 Waitanyuan, Maison Patek Phillipe, RockBund, Yifeng Galleria, Sau San Tong and Shanghai Rose – to launch Magical Waitanyuan, a season of Yuletide dining, shopping, cultural events and promotions. The centrepiece attraction of Magical Waitanyuan is the first outdoor skating rink in Puxi, which is managed by The Peninsula Shanghai and is located adjacent to the hotel. The 200 sq m (2,000 sq ft) rink is set amid a winter wonderland of twinkling lights, pine trees, decorative snow and festive music. The skating rink is open daily to guests and the public alike (Sunday to Thursday: 10:00 am to 8:00 pm; Friday and Saturday: 10:00 am to 10:00 pm) now until 5 January 2014.
Seasonal highlights include a Winter Afternoon Tea with live, classical music in The Lobby, a Kids’ Afternoon Tea (14 and 15 December) and a daily Festive Brunch at Sir Elly’s. The fabulous Christmas Eve Gala Buffet Party will be hosted in The Rose Ballroom, and gala dinners will be served at Yi Long Court and Sir Elly’s. Diners can count down to 2014 with New Year’s Eve feasts at The Lobby, Sir Elly’s and Yi Long Court. Shoppers seeking a special Christmas gift can choose from The Peninsula Boutique’s three hampers filled with deluxe goodies, or for sublime relaxation, The Peninsula Spa is offering a Festive Rejuvenation spa journey.
The festivities commenced on Friday 29 November, with the Christmas tree lighting ceremony and cocktail reception at The Lobby. At this sparkling event, a choir sang traditional carols, gluhwein and mouth-watering delicacies were served and the Christmas Gingerbread Village was unveiled. The Peninsula Shanghai’s annual charity programme, Trees of Hope, was launched with guests and visitors invited to purchase “SnowPage” ornaments to hang on the Christmas tree. Proceeds are donated to the Peninsula Hotels’ HOPE FOR THE PHILIPPINES fundraising initiative for communities affected by Super Typhoon Haiyan, in addition to local charities.
