Course Description

Spanish III focuses on the continued development of communicative competence of Spanish and understanding of the culture(s) of the people who speak the language. Students use basic language structures with accuracy and recombine learned material to express their thoughts. They will be exposed to more complex features of the language, moving from concrete to some abstract concepts.

Materials required

Students are required to come to class prepared to learn. This requires that students bring a notebook (3 ring binder), paper, and a pencil or pen. The teacher will provide any other materials required.

Goals and Objectives

The goals and objectives for this course are based on those of the Georgia Performance Standards of the State Department of Education. You may locate these standards from Georgia Learning Connections at: http://www.glc.k12.ga.us

At appropriate intervals, rules will be introduced to facilitate and enhance the student’s understanding of concepts presented and practiced. The student will be required to listen attentively, take good notes, and respond in Spanish using topical vocabulary to answer/ask questions and react in uncomplicated situations.

Homework

Homework usually consists of work begun in class. If the student has insufficient time to complete the assignment in class, it becomes homework and is expected to be completed by the following day. Students who do not turn work in on time will be assigned lunch detention until all work is complete.

Since all of the material in a foreign language course is new to the student, it is very important that he/she study at least 10-15 minutes daily. Unannounced quizzes will not be given the first day after new material is presented; but anytime after the first day, the student should be prepared. Make-up work

Unless a student has been absent, all work is expected to be turned in on time (the date given by the teacher). If a student is absent, the teacher will determine a make-up day within the time allotted in the PCHS Parent/Student Handbook. Failure to make up work within this time will result in the student being assigned lunch detention until all work is complete. Extenuating circumstances must be discussed with the teacher prior to the make-up day.

Make-up Days- Wednesday and Thursday

Extra Credit

In accordance with the PCHS Handbook, no extra credit assignments will be given.
