Status: U.S. Navy, Active Duty HM2 Sonny Lemerande was born in Rhilander, Wis., but grew up in Hometown: Baraga, Michigan Baraga, small town in upper Michigan. He joined the Navy in Current Command: Naval 2003 shortly after high school. Hospital Twentynine Palms, Due to his interest in the medical Calif. field and a family member serving as a medic in the U.S. Air Force, Previous commands: he decided to enlist as a Navy  33rd Infantry Brigade Corpsman. Combat Team, Illinois National Guard HM2 Lemerande has been on two  Material Readiness deployments during his seven Company, Combat Logistics year naval career; one in support Battalion 7, Twentynine of Operation Iraqi Freedom in Palms, Calif. 2006 with the Marines and  Naval Operational Medical another in support of Operation Institute Pensacola, Fla. Enduring Freedom in 2008 as an Individual Augmentee with the National Guard. It was while Injury type: serving with the 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team with the  Lower Body Impairment Illinois National Guard that he was wounded.
