Research Project FINAL DRAFT Expectations

Research Project FINAL DRAFT Expectations:

I. Research Paper (100 points) 1. Final Drafts should be submitted in a three ring binder. a. Please put the title of your project on the spine of the binder. Additionally, please create a title page with group members name and put it on the front of the binder. i. Note: I will be looking at the rough draft comments on your Google Doc. b. Please cut and paste a copy of your final draft onto your wiki page. 2. Your research paper should include the following sections and be in the following order: a. Abstract (Defining the problem – what is it your group wants to solve) i. This should be considered the introduction of the paper b. Proving the Problem Exists i. Historical evidence ii. Local evidence 1. This section should include the survey you used 2. This section should include any charts or graphs you made to show your data 3. This section should include a written analysis of the data (you turned in a rough draft for this). c. Solutions to the Problem i. This section should include a written analysis of the proposed solutions. ii. This section should include any handouts that you made to guide your solutions. d. Conclusion (evaluation of outcomes if solutions are adopted) 3. MLA sources must be included by section. Use Easybib.com if needed. 4. Please include a flashdrive or CD with both your Research Paper AND the PPT.

II. PowerPoint (25 points) 1. Your PowerPoint should outline your entire paper. It should follow the same order as your paper. Therefore, the sections of your PowerPoint should be in the following order: a. Abstract (Defining the problem – what is it your group wants to solve) b. Proving the Problem Exists (should outline historical evidence and include charts and graphs from your local proof) c. Solutions to the Problem (you might want to give a handout to your classmates) d. Conclusion (evaluation of outcomes if solutions are adopted) 2. The PowerPoint should be done using bullet point summaries. Do not include full sentences or simply cut and paste ideas from your paper. This leads to “reading off slides” which I discourage. 3. In general, each slide should contain no more than three bullet points per slide. 4. Each slide must have an image that relates to the information being discussed on the slide. The image should add to an understanding of the subject you are discussing. a. Please cite each image by putting the website (or book) you used underneath the image. b. Please be sure images are sized properly and are not fuzzy. c. DO NOT USE CLIP ART

III. Presentations (25 points) 1. Groups are expected to present for 10-15 minutes. I will be giving warning times so you know how long you’ve presented. Please practice your presentation to get the timing and preparation correct. 2. Each member of the group is expected to present. If a member does not present, I will assume that they chose to not complete this requirement, and only they will lose points. 3. The class and teacher will be given an opportunity to ask clarifying questions about the project at throughout the presentation.
