Kokomo School Corporation Laptop FAQ’S

How long can I use the laptop? We believe the corporation-issued laptops are powerful enough for classroom work that students should be able to use the laptops throughout their high school career at Kokomo High School.

What if I already have another model and/or brand of tablet computer? Students are issued a Kokomo School Corporation laptop for educational purposes. This practice ensures that all students have corporation-issued computers, which can log onto the corporation’s network while having the ability to run the software needed for KHS courses. The corporation provides maintenance, service, and/or assistance for only corporation-issued laptops.

Will I have my laptop in the summer? All laptops are collected at the end of each school year for general maintenance, cleaning, and software updates.

Does KSC provide maintenance on corporation-issued laptops? Students enrolled in the Kokomo School Corporation are covered by a maintenance agreement for items described in the warranty agreement.

What if I want to add options to my corporation-issued laptop later? Only Kokomo School Corporation employees are authorized to add options and upgrades to corporation-issued laptops.

What has Kokomo Schools done to help prevent students from viewing inappropriate sites? Each corporation-issued laptop is equipped with software that monitors all Internet sites that students may attempt to access. This software blocks known inappropriate sites and also logs a history of all sites accessed. Students who access inappropriate sites are in violation of the Kokomo School Corporation Acceptable Use Policy and will be referred to an administrator for possible disciplinary action. Where do I find an authorized Lenovo / HP service technician? Only KHS-based technicians, who are employed by the Kokomo School Corporation, are authorized to service and repair the corporation-issued laptops. If a service need arises, students should take their laptops to the Tech Den at Kokomo High School.

What about insurance covering theft and/or breakage? Corporation-issued laptops are portable and very valuable. Kokomo School Corporation officials recommend that families consider purchasing a third-party laptop insurance plan. Students will be held responsible for intentional abuse and/or negligence. Our laptop vendor will fix accidental breakage, and those officials will determine if the damage is beyond the scope covered by the corporation-provided accidental drop insurance plan.

What will I do without a computer in my classes if my laptop is being repaired … or while I am replacing my laptop if it is lost, or stolen? The Kokomo School Corporation stocks a limited number of laptops that will be loaned on a first-come, first-serve basis. Students can apply for a loaner laptop with the KHS technology staff at the Tech Den. Students in possession of a loaner laptop will be responsible for any damage to, or loss of, these laptops.

Are student laptops subject to “inspection”; what if a corporation-issued laptop is in for repairs and “objectionable data” is detected? Corporation personnel may monitor corporation-issued laptops at any time even though the laptops are assigned to the students. Corporation-issued laptops remain the property of the Kokomo School Corporation. Inappropriate material found on corporation-issued laptops will be removed, and the student responsible will be referred to a Kokomo High School administrator for possible disciplinary action.
