AUMF-2453-60041 - Ford Eng Perf Diagnosis & Tes T The theory and application of Ford electronic and computer control, and includes the study of multiplexing with further diagnosis and testing using Ford’s Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) in relationship to improved engine performance. Theory/Lab.

Course Purpose: Upon successful completion of this course, the students will be able to: • Use a scan tool to select PIDs and monitor normal system operation. • Identify faults and monitor changes in system operation using a scan tool. • Use PC/ED, wiring diagrams, and workshop manuals to diagnose an engine performance concern. • Use the SSCC diagnostic process to diagnose an engine performance concern. • Follow a pinpoint test to perform various tests on engine performance related components. • Identify the root cause of an engine performance concern

Type of Course: Theory/Lab Credit Hours: 3; Total clock hours of theory per semester: 82; Total clock hours of lab per semester: 30; Total clock hours of clinical per semester: 52. Optional Resources: Warning: All students are provided a laptop or desktop computer for use in the building during a class session. These laptops are the property of OSUIT and as such their usage is governed by policies set in place by OSUIT. Unauthorized websites are not to be accessed by students. Authorized websites students are allowed to visit are: newfordtech.com, PTS, STARS, and FMCDealer. All other websites such as Google, YouTube, Craigslist, Summit, Jeggs, etc. are to be considered off limits. The instructor may allow students to access additional websites at his discretion. Students caught accessing unauthorized websites will be sent home and receive a zero for daily participation. Any subsequent offense will result in the same punishment and may result in the instructor requesting removal of the student from the ASSET program.

Must have basic mechanical skills and be able to master the use of tools commonly used in the automotive repair industry.

TESTING Testing is open book format. Notes taken during class, workstation information done in class, may be used on final written and hands on exams. First attempt on written test is grade recorded in the gradebook for the official final grade. If a student scores less than 80% on the written final, the student will have one additional attempt to pass the written test with an 80%. If student does not pass the written test with an 80% or higher, on at least one attempt, the student will not be granted Ford Credential Certification for this course. The student will have to pursue the course through the dealership at a later date or come back as a continuing student and retake the course in the future.

Note: All web based training listed in the STARS planner must be completed when assigned and must be completed before the day of the written final. Any student who has not completed the web based will not be allowed to take the written final. Also, any student arriving late on the day of the written final will not be allowed to take the final.

CELL PHONES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE USED DURING TESTING. A violation of cell phone usage during testing will be disciplined up to and/or including failure of the test with a zero and the student will be reported. Reference ACADEMIC DISHONESTY section below.

OTHER LAB AND CLASSROOM POLICIES Students have a daily participation grade that starts at 10 points. Points are deducted based on participation, being on time, staying the complete class, and participation in the classroom activities. Points will be deducted based on cell phone usage during class, being tardy to class, sleeping in class, not wearing the appropriate uniform, being disruptive, etc. Note, missing an entire class period will result in zero points for that days class participation grade.
