Participation in Government

Participation in Government Current Events In place of nightly homework, you have a weekly current events assignment.

LATE WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED Task:  Find an article either in the newspaper or online from a newspaper source, Time.com, USA Today, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Buffalo News (for local stories) or any other reputable national print source. This must be a print (even if found online) source, not CNN, FoxNews, etc.  Your article must be about Government and/or Politics. This would include proposed laws and foreign relations; not all news stories will fit this criteria, but as we are in an election year, there is plenty available.  For the purposes of this assignment our week will go from Friday – Thursday. This means, articles posted / events that happened the Friday the assignment is due will lose credit (and show that you procrastinated).  Read the article and fill out the statements / answer the questions below.  To receive credit, assignment must be typed onto the Current Events Form (available on my teacher page) and have the article attached. You have a week, typing is not a problem if you do not procrastinate.  Do not email your assignment to me unless you will not be in class that day. If you cannot print at home, take care of it during Activity Period or Commons.

Scoring:  Article - 10 o Appropriate source – 5 o Stapled to worksheet - 5  Worksheet - 16 o To receive credit for any portion it must be in complete sentences. Yes, even for “Who is this about”.  Discussion – 5 o You will receive five points for discussing your current event. If someone before you used the same event, there will still be plenty to discuss. o You will only need to discuss every other week. On the opposite weeks, you will be marked Ex, for excused.

As you can see, this assignment is worth a large number of points and getting a zero will negatively affect your grade, but completing all current events assignments well, will give your grade a big boost. Name: Due Date: Topic of Article: Title of Article: Source:
