Solar System Report

You will be completing a mini report on our solar system. It will be 3 paragraphs long and must have the information listed below, but you may expand if you so desire. You may use any resources to research the system. Please make sure your writing is in your own words. Your science book will be a valuable resource. Have fun and learn a lot!!  DUE 3/25 in a report folder with a title page.

Paragraph 1- The Sun

 What is it?  Where is it located?  What is it mostly made of?  How does it compare to other stars?  How does the position of the sun affect your shadow?

Paragraph 2-

 Describe the correct order and characteristics of each planet

Paragraph 3-Our Moon

 Where is it?  Where is it located?  What is it made of?  How does the moon light up?  Describe some phases of the moon and how long does it take to orbit the earth?

On a piece of plain paper, please accurately draw a picture of our solar system to include in your report.

Please make the report as complete as possible. Use facts and important details. You may use your science book, the Internet, and our school library.

You will be given time to work on the report in class. Please bring resources daily to help you work on it during class time.

The report MUST be written in ink or typed. If you type it, please double space it.

The report MUST be in your own words. No part of this report should be copied from a book or Internet source.

Your report should be placed in a report folder with a title page and a table of contents.

I have included a list of prompts. Have your child choose one, answer the question in detail and then draw an illustration to coincide with their answer.

Use the paper titled “Picture of our Solar System” for your HAND DRAWN illustration.

I have attached a grade sheet for your knowledge.

Your report must include the following: Title page, table of contents, 3 paragraph written report, journal page, simile paper, and illustration of the solar system. Please keep a log of all resources. We will attempt a bibliography that will be included as the last page.

This report is due MARCH 25 th .
