Urbana High School Physical Education and Athletics Locker Room Safety and Security

 The locker room will be locked until 7:15 a.m. Students entering the building prior to 7:15 a.m. should report to the cafeteria.  Each student will be issued his or her own lock and locker. Students should never share their combination or locker with anyone else.  Participants on school athletic teams can use their team lockers for physical education class. These lockers must be vacated immediately after the conclusion of their interscholastic season.  The physical education lockers are not large enough to fit backpacks. The students are instructed to remove all valuables from their backpack, place them in the locker, cover their valuables with clothing or other items, close the locker door, lock the lock and turn the tumbler to insure the lock has engaged.  It is highly recommended that electronic devices and valuables not relative to school instruction be left at home.  The use of cell phones at Urbana High School is prohibited during school hours. The physical education activity areas and locker rooms are no exception.  Students must inform the physical education staff immediately if the lock malfunctions or the locker is broken.  Proper workout clothing must be worn during physical education class. In trying to maintain an educational setting, the same dress code enforced in the school will apply to the physical education area. A full T-shirt that does not expose the midriff is required. Clothing cannot have any drug, alcohol or sexual innuendo message or logo. Shorts must be an appropriate length and should have an elastic or string tie waist with no zipper. Proper footwear, tennis shoes or trainers, must be worn at all times.  Urbana High School athletic uniforms may not be worn during physical education classes. An athletic competition or practice does not constitute a legitimate excuse for non-participation in physical education.  After the students have changed into their workout clothing, they should not return to the locker room until class is over. The locker rooms will be locked. Restrooms are available in the gym lobby and the cafeteria hallway.  In order to maintain a secure locker room, students should only use the locker rooms during their physical education class time. Students should refrain from going to their lockers during lunch or other class times.  Food should never be left or stored in the locker room or lockers. All students need to help keep the locker room area clean by disposing all trash in the proper receptacles.  Students should report anyone entering the locker room who is not participating in a physical education class during that block. They should communicate this to the physical education staff as soon as possible.  Urbana High School is not responsible for lost or stolen items left unsecured.
