Rhineland Palatinate to Rotterdam Overnight
Contargo Wörth starts direct rail connection to the Maasvlakte
Wörth, May 23, 2011: From 30.5.2011 Contargo Wörth, the biggest container terminal in the Contargo Group, is to get a new regular rail link. The Wörth Multimodal Express, WME, will run twice a week, connecting the technology region of Karlsruhe with the seaport of Rotterdam (Maasvlakte), thus creating a fast link to the Delta Terminals there. Director of Wörth Wolfgang Schlegel says: “Now, as well as connections to Hamburg four times a week, we can of- fer customers who are in a hurry the fast overnight link to Rotterdam – without having to use trucks at all.”
The regular customers of Contargo Wörth generally prefer to use barges for their transports, as a reliable, economical and environmentally friendly trans- port mode. “However, sometimes there is a need for speed, and we have to reach a closing at the seaports. In such cases we are glad to be able to use the direct rail links within our own network, as a fast alternative to trucking,” adds Thomas Löffler, who is also a director of Contargo Wörth.
About Contargo Wörth: With a depot capacity of 7,000 TEU, Contargo Wörth is the largest terminal in the Contargo Network. The terminal has three berths for inland vessels, a rail module with 5 tracks and a container repair area. Barges depart from Wörth for the seaports of Rotterdam and Antwerp 4 times a week, and for Amster- dam once a week. There are regular rail connections to Hamburg 4 times a week and (from 30.5.2011) 2 times a week to Rotterdam.
