2 0.6BRIEF RESUME OF THE STUDY.

6.1 NEED FOR THE STUDY. Ati Krusha is one among the kuposhanajanya vyadhi. Kuposhanajanya vyadhi occurs due to the lack of nutrients in diet. Vegavarodha i.e. suppression of natural urges like hunger4, thirst, sleep etc which affects the general health status and ratri jagarana is also a reason for krushata.4Kriyaatiyoga (vamana, virechana atiyoga) also lead to krishata.

Krusharogi with hinabala are more prone for diseases such as pliha, kshaya, kasa, swasa, gulma, arsha, udara, and grahani etc. Shareerika bala as well as sexual activities of krisha rogi is hampered due to the above said reasons and the person get exhausted very soon even after doing small works. Ayurveda aims for the prevention, promotion and maintenance of health, Swasthavritta being a specialty in Ayurveda deals with proper life style, Ahara-Vihara and Rasayana which are basic for maintaining and promotion of health. A person who becomes krusha due to intake of ruksha ahara etc should be treated with bala-vardhaka, bramahana and vajeekaraka Aushadhi10

Mridvika is having madhura rasa sitala and snigdha guna and is having brahmana and vrishya properties.5 Masha is having guru, snigdha and ushna guna, madhura rasa and having santarpana, balya, vrishya and vatahara properties.5 Ashvagandha is having laghu and snigdha guna, madhura-kashaya rasa and vata- kapha Shamaka, balya, vrishya and rasayana properties.5 Tila is having madhura, tikta, kashaya and katu rasa, snigdha, balya and ushna guna.

Nagara is having madhura and katu vipaka, it is having vrishya, kapha- vataghna, snehana, hridya and deepana properties.5 Karshya is associated with Agni mandya, Vata vriddhi and dhatu kshaya. As a coumpound preparation, each drug targets each of the above said aspects of the disease besides being Brihmana, Balya and Vrishya, thus yielding more effect than a single drug therapy.

3 Above said drugs in avaleha form may act as effective remedy to overcome the problems faced by the adults suffering from Karshya as these drugs are bruhmana, vrishya, madhura rasa and balya in nature. So here an effort is made to see the efficacy of avaleha prepared with above said drugs in preventing complication and improving nutritional status of Karshya patients.

6.2 REVIEW OF LITERATURE: . Karshya is one among the Kuposhna Janya Vyadhi, which comes under Apatarpana Vyadhi. Atikrusha is included under Asta Nindita Pursha. Krushata is caused due to Rukshannapana, increased activity of Sharirika, Manasika, and Vachika Kriyas and also due to Shoka, Vega avarodha, Vriddhavasta, Vataprakruti, and by Dirghakaalina Roga.1, 6 The person who is Krusha will have Sushka Sphik, Udara, and Griva and also they have less Mamsa in the body. The joints will be more prominent as well as the peripheral veins.1, 10 The Krusha are more susceptible for diseases and there will be Kshaya of Snehamsha in the body, Kshaya of Agni, Nidra, Indriya Shakti, Shukra, Oja, and Swara. Characteristically Krusha person gets pain in Basti, Hrudya Janga, and also in Trika and Ura Pradesh.10 According to Chikitsa Siddanta of Krusha, Laghu, Santarpan and Brumhana Chikitsa can be adopted.1 The Krusha people will need madhura, Snigdha, Ushna, and Laghu Guna property drugs and diet in their treatment.3 Krusharogi is treated with brahmana and vrishya drugs like ashwagandha, vidari etc.3

Ashvagandha is having Laghu and Snigdha Guna, madhur Vipaka and Kapha Vatashamaka property. Ashvagandha act as Balya, Brumahaniya and Rasayana.5 Mridweeka is having madhura rasa sitala and snigdha guna and is having brahmana and vrishya properties.8, 5 Masha is having guru, snigdha and ushna guna madhura rasa and having santarpana, balya, vrishya and vatahara properties.5 Tila is having madhura, tikta, kashaya and katu rasa, snigdha, balya and ushna guna.5 Nagara is having madhura and katu vipaka, it is having vrishya, kapha vataghna, snehana, hridya and deepana properties.5

4 Guda is having madhura rasa; it helps in the production of rakta, meda, mamsa shukra, majja and bala. Main preparation of above said drugs like Ashvagandha ghrita9, Ashvagandha rasayana, Asvagandha avalehya, drakshadi leha, tiladi rasayana, can be used in Karshya.6, 8, 9
