USS VESUVIUS CHIEF SCIENCE OFFICER'S DUTY LOGS LIEUTENANT JUNIOR GRADE JULIA LORENZO
Computer: Open CSO's Duty Log.
Stardate 10004.04 SO Majal was able to report some very significant findings in his studies of the ruins on the planet Miasma. He found ancient graphic drawings on the walls of the ruins that appear to tell a story and which appears similar to a story from Ferengi lore about mythical beings. As I request SO Majal to give us more details we smell the distinct scent of baking bread.
Majal then describes the three prominent Ferengi merchants from their mythology. A meat cutter, a pastry maker and a lamp manufacturer. In essence, a butcher a baker and a candlestick maker. Coincidentally, all three images can be seen clearly in the graphic drawings depicted on the ancient Miasma ruins.
We then see the pastry maker apparition, a Ferengi-like figure wearing an apron and rolling dough. I hold up my tricorder once again, hoping for some information on its source. It disappears after a few seconds. Logically, I predict the butcher will appear next. I speak with Davis wondering if the planet Miasma is really uninhabited.
Next we hear a dull thunking sound farther down the mine shaft. I voice my suspicions on the probability of our phasers not working correctly along with the tricorders. If something cannot be scanned how will it be targeted? If something or someone from the planet was opposed to the Ferengi presence on the moons I wondered what they would perceive our presence to be.
Our thrid apparition appears, chopping meat with a cleaver. It flickered for a second, I would have missed the variance if I blinked. I study the apparition closely noting the slight difference between this 'ghost' and the first two. He looked more realistic than the others, too realistic, and an unmistakable representation of Tode. It was a holoimage of our Ferengi.
Suddenly my tricorder detects the power readings of a hologenerator coming from behind a rock in the mine shaft. The 'butcher' disappears. I show Davis and Wakefield its location and ask to know the range of the hologenerator. Davis reports the range is only 10 ft. We all know we have traveled more than that between the sightings. Wakefield believes there to be someone else behind the first two images. I begin to agree but wish to rule out our having missed finding the first two generators.
On Davis' orders we backtrack to the first two areas where the images were seen. Yet, we find nothing. The hologenerator that created the 'butcher' image was beamed to the Vesuvius for further testing. Computer: Close Duty Logs.
