Role Description – Design Ensemble Director

Under the instruction of the ASPIRE Artistic Director and working alongside the ASPIRE set designer and costume designer, the Design Ensemble Director will work with the ensemble to construct Set, Costume and props as required for the ASPIRE production. Their input will be invited in the design of set and costume and they will be required to take management of the set construction and liaise with set builders as required.

Commencing in week 6 Term 1 2018, with weekly rehearsals from Term 2, the Design Ensemble director will be present at all ASPIRE rehearsals as per the below schedule allowing for production meeting as they occur.

Key Responsibilities

 Preparing materials and equipment for each week’s activities in conversation with the Set Designer and Costume Designer

 Sourcing materials as required

 Developing a timeline to scope the set and costume requirements across the allocated time

 Demonstrating ‘how to’ make, create and offering guidance to the ensemble

 Marking the roll and being the main contact for the group week to week

 Attendance at Production Meetings

 Liaising with Production Manager re bump in and assisting in the management of this process

 Required for the entirety of Production week at the Civic Theatre and to enable the set installation

Essential Knowledge and Qualities

 Experience in creating set/costume and props

 Experience working with young people

 Working with Children Check

 First Aid Certificate

 Ability to work as part of a creative team

 Problem solving skills

 Strong Communication skills

The role will receive a fee for service of $6,750, which includes all rehearsals and meetings.
