Minutes of the Meeting of the Chester Park and Recreation Commission

These minutes are subject to Commission approval.

Wednesday, April 01, 2015 7:00 PM Chester Town Hall, Conference Room C

Chairman Williams called the meeting to order at 7:05pm.

Members Present: Susan Hotkowski, Ivey Gianetti, Matthew Sanders, John Williams Members Absent: James Ready, Elizabeth Williams Also in Attendance: Elizabeth Netsch, Tyler Saunders

Minutes: On a motion made by Susan Hotkowski and seconded by Ivey Gianetti, the minutes of the meeting 14 January 2015 were approved unanimously.

Directors Report

Golf Clinics: Cancelled due to personal reasons

Adult Basketball Extension: Extended till April 30 for extreme interest

Picnic Table Donation: Tom Smith would like to donate and dedicate a picnic table as a memorial at the lake. Matthew Sanders moved that committee accepts proposal of Tom Smith as he will donate a permanent picnic table to be installed at the west end of Pelletier park with request of the color be green or something that blends with natural surroundings. Subject to location goes to director. Seconded by Susan Hotkowski. Vote was unanimous.

PayPal Update- People use it, and it is somewhat becoming popular. Summer Camp Registration: Camp is completely full, but there were added six more students to two of the weeks so there is need of one more staff member. There is a wait list and we also have scholarships available for Chester residents. Those interested have till April 6th to pay.

Summer Staffing: There is one more person to interview and is currently taking life guard training. Also there was a life guard already hired. Everybody returned from last year except one.

New Program Proposal

Pet Appreciation and Training: Homeward Bound Adoption Events LLC and BNA Services would like to host a Pet Awareness Day on Sunday September 13th in conjunction with the Chester Sunday Market. The event will be open to the public at no charge and will reinforce proper care of your Dog. BNA Services is a local company owned and run by Belinda Ahern. Belinda is a certified trainer and is also a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Evaluator. It will take place at the meeting house with vendors and crafters being there as well. Money goes towards adoption events for Chester Fair grounds. There will also be classes offered prior to this which will prepare anyone towards being CGC certified. Matthew Sanders moved to accept sponsorship of Homeward Bound Adoption Events LLC, Ivey Gianetti seconded. Vote was unanimous.

Scrapbooking: (Name of librarian) will like to do it again. The event did not have a huge crowd but those who did go had a really good time and seem to be likely to do it again.

Yoga: Annette Babek had done yoga sessions at the meeting house before and there was a lot of turnout and response. She would like to do another yoga session in the fall with the sponsorship of Park and Rec.

Chairperson’s Report

Firehouse Ball Donation: There was a total of $230.25 made and in response there will be a donation of $250. $50 will be taken out the Red Cross training sessions. Ivey Gianetti moves to donate $250 to Chester Hose Company from Chester Park and Rec Contra accounts for hosting the fire house ball, Susan Hotkowski seconds. Vote was unanimous.

Lending equipment: The Chester Park and Rec commission does not lend out equipment unless it’s to town of Chester activities. Susan Hotkowski moves, Matthew Sanders second. Vote was unanimous.

Activities Directory: There should be a price discount to Chester Residents if we promote an event or activity on our web site.

Park Assessments: The surface of the park is being washed away which is making the park very dangerous and unsafe for the public. Matthew Sanders will write a draft for the First Selectman asking that funds be set aside and attention be paid to park as well as meeting the consumer safety standards. This is on behalf of the Park and Rec commission.
