Job posting for: Out-of-School Time Family Outreach Worker- Bi-Lingual Somali or Oromo (Luxton Park) or Spanish (Mulberry Junction) Reports to: Program Manager Status: 12-15 per week during the school year, Part-Time, Non-Exempt Two positions available: Luxton Learners (112 Williams Ave SE) and Mulberry Junction (1700 2nd Street NE)

Broad Scope and Function of Job: Provides translation services (oral and written) for students, families, and community members. Assists Program Manager planning and facilitating family involvement events, recruiting students, and regularly checking in with families. Assists youth work team planning and leading enrichment activities and clubs. Assists Lead Youth Worker with execution of miscellaneous youth care duties daily. Assists Licensed Teacher with academic tutoring and literacy and math assessments. Willing and capable of contributing to a staff team whose goal is to create a safe, welcoming space where all youth are empowered to thrive.

Major Job Responsibilities:

Is responsible for, but not limited to the following functions:

1. Family and Community (50%):  Translates program materials into Spanish and/or Somali using Microsoft software (Word, Publisher).  Conducts outreach in the community to link youth and families with available community/agency resources.  Plans, Coordinates, Documents regular Family Community Council meetings.  Assists ESNS Youth Program Manager with the planning and facilitation of quarterly Family Field Trips.  Checks-in regularly with parents about youths’ experience in program.  Assist with the planning and implementation of all family events.  Coordinates volunteer opportunities for families and gathers feedback and evaluative input.  Translates conversations between other staff and families by phone and/or in person as needed.  Assists with translation during new student intake sessions for the school year and summer programs.

2. Program Implementation (30%):  Assists ESNS’ Youth Program Manager and Lead Youth Worker with the daily responsibilities of the program, such as assisting with the planning and facilitation of art projects and other activities, creating healthy daily snacks, transporting youth, and supervising field trips. Activities focus on communication, academic development, problem-solving, leadership, and community engagement.  Provides direct service work with students to assist in their development of leadership, self-esteem, character and identity, community service learning, and positive adult and peer relationships.

3. Administrative Duties (10%):  Prepares and maintains records of work with individuals and groups.  Documents progress of Family Community Council meetings and events. 4. Other (10%):  Other responsibilities as assigned by the ESNS Youth Program Manager.

Job Requirements:  Proficiency writing and speaking in Somali or Oromo (Luxton Park) or Spanish (Mulberry Junction), as well as the ability to translate into spoken and written English.  A willingness to learn more about the social/emotional, nutritional, and physical needs of K-5 youth, as well as the structure and design of quality youth programming is required.  Preferred Experience:  Experience working with families and youth.  Experience doing outreach to parents or guardians and working with groups and program planning in a community setting.  Experience with meeting timelines and completing projects promptly in a fast-paced atmosphere.  Experience running a group of 6-25 students between the ages of 6-11 and understanding group dynamics and how to increase youth engagement.  Valid MN driver’s license and access to an insured, reliable vehicle preferred but not mandatory.
