JR. RED DEVILS FLAG FOOTBALL RULES

GRADES 5TH- and Above page 1 1) Teams will consist of 5-7 players per team 2) Games consist of two 20 minute halves with a 5 minute half time. 3) Games will be played on fields 24 yards wide and 50 yards long. 4) All games will be played at Ridge High School. 5) Games will start with a coin toss. 6) Ball always starts on the 5 yard line. The offensive team then has 4 downs to get the ball to mid-field which would give them a first down and then 4 downs to score. If either of these are not accomplished the ball is placed on the opposing team’s 5 and they go on offense. 7) The ball must be snapped by a center to start play. 8) Man to man pass defense only. No zone pass defense is permitted. 9) Rushing the QB is allowed after a 5 second count, at which time the QB will be permitted to run past the line of scrimmage (if they haven’t already used their running play). 10) Once the ball is handed off or pitched to a running back, immediate rush is allowed. The running back can then pass (if behind the line of scrimmage) or run (if the 1 running play has not been used). If running play has already been used and running back mistakenly runs, play will be called dead and loss of down. 11) 1 running play per 4 down series is permitted. 12) Shuttle passes (or any forward passes behind the line of scrimmage) will be considered a running play. 13) NO STIFF ARMS. If the ball carrier uses the stiff arm, the play will be whistled dead and a five yard penalty will be assessed from the point of infraction and loss of down. The same penalty will be assessed for players holding their flags so they can’t be pulled. 14) No running plays are allowed within the 15 yard “Red Zone”. The QB must release the ball within 10 seconds. After 10 seconds the play is over and the ball is returned to the line of scrimmage. The 10 seconds rule also applies to all extra points. 15) All interceptions by the defense can be advanced and the defensive team will have possession of the ball. 16) Fumbles are a dead ball. Loss of down with no change of possession.

17) Players can not go in motion. 18) The receiver or runner will be down when the flag is in the possession of the defender. If the ball carrier falls and his knee hits the ground the play will be whistled dead whether or not the players flag has been pulled. 19) Offense must have at least 4 players on the line of scrimmage and must be set for at least one count before the ball is snapped. 20) Scoring is 6 points for a touchdown and 1 point for an extra point. There is no kicking for field goals or extra points. 21) Downfield blocking is not permitted. JR. RED DEVILS FLAG FOOTBALL RULES (2009 SEASON)
