LGBT STAFF NETWORK MEETING

Meeting 11 – Monday 28th July 2008 in room G10 BHSC

Actions Minutes CHAIR EIBHEAR WALSHE The Committee agreed to rotate the Chair at each meeting

1 Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting  Minutes were approved

2 Matters arising from the minutes  Matters were discussed through the agenda of the meeting.   CM to contact 3 Intervarsity LGBT staff event - Workshop Equality Authority  CM told the Committee about the idea from the to check for IUA Equality Network to organise a pre-workshop availability of a introduction to LGBT Staff Networks hosted by the room on 14th Equality Authority. The aims of this session would August 08 and be to: circulate date to A) Create a support network in all universities for other Equality LGBT staff; Officers B) Provide an opportunity for input from LGBT staff in other universities to the upcoming Intervarsity Workshop on LGBT Staff Networks and; C) Generate an interest in the Intervarsity Workshop and a mailing list for attendance.  EW suggested this meeting take place on 14th August 08  The network agreed to draft an advertisement that could be used by the other universities to advertise this event to their staff.  Niall Crowley could be maybe invited to open the session  As UCC is project leader, DOD and EW offered to represent UCC at this pre-workshop event in Dublin.

 The network discussed the logistics of the Workshop and came up with the following ideas:  To host the workshop in the Spring rather than in the autumn and to hold it on a Saturday  The overall aim of the workshop is to put LGBT staff networks on the agenda for people working in higher education institutions North and South  Both workshops 1 and 2 will be held on the same day  UCC to provide the space for this workshop  The majority of the grant should be spent on recording the session and producing a report.  Will do sandwiches for lunch and organise a social night for afterwards to be held in a pub with maybe some finger food.  The last Saturday in January was suggested for the Workshop  The workshop proposal needs to be costed  Could target Google for a speaker for the first session on other LGBT staff networks in Ireland and could target a Higher Education Institution in the UK for a speaker on the second part of the workshop looking at staff networks in other third level institutions. 4 Report from LGBT staff liaison officer  EW was congratulated on his appointment  EW expressed thanks to all that organised the AGM and complemented Sheila Crowley on her speech.

 All – if any of the 5 Equality Committee – draft strategy for discussion network members  CM had circulated the draft strategy in advance of have comments on the meeting the document,  CM gave a brief summary of the report and asked please submit to for feedback before the end of the summer as the CM final draft will be presented at the first Equality Committee meeting for sign-off

6 Same sex marriage – AGM proposal – any suggestions for follow-up?  DJ introduced this proposal and told the group about Marriage Equality offering to give a talk and how they would be interested in meeting the network.  DJ has a list of four websites recommended by Marriage Equality.

 JMcC to advertise 7 AOB social event to all  A social event for the network was discussed. It staff. was decided to advertise the event to all staff at the  CK to send links on start of the next academic term and to hold it in the to group bar in Jurys hotel after work on Thursday 9th October 2009 with no cost involved.  The next meeting will take place on Monday 239th September 2008. Meetings will take place on the last Monday of every month.
