CREATVIE WRITING AWARD

North Vernon Rotary Club will sponsor a creative writing award at Jennings County High School. The competition is open to all seniors. One award of $200 and one award of $100 will be presented by a Representative of Rotary Club on Honor Night.

All entries must be turned into the Guidance office by April 1st. manuscripts must be typed or clearly written in ink. A number will identify each entry when it is judged.

The writing may be in any literary form. A short story of fictional narrative should be limited to approximately three thousand (3,000) words. A poetry entry may be one poem or a group of poems (not necessarily related in subject) in any form of verse, rhymed or free. Total lines of a poetry will be given for the entire entry, not for part thereof. An essay or article may be formal or informal, serious or humorous. It may deal with any subject but always in terms of the student’s own ideas and viewpoint. The suggested length is seven hundred (700) to fifteen hundred (1,500) words. Dramatic writing may be a radio or television script or a one-act play for the stage.

Writing will be judged on the basis of originality, quality of expression and skill in handling specific forms of writing. It is possible that the Rotary Club will want to send the winning entries to the local newspaper, so please submit entries which will be appropriate for publication.
