To All Applicants for VI Form in September 2017
We are delighted you have applied for a place at KES Academy Sixth Form. We believe we offer excellent teaching, facilities, curriculum choice and extracurricular opportunities and look forward to welcoming you in September.
You will be receiving your GCSE Results next month; I hope you have done well and that you enjoy the rest of your break. I am writing to explain the process for confirming your place at KES Academy Sixth Form for September 2017 once you have received these results.
Entry Criteria
In order to be eligible for a place you must have achieved five GCSE grades at A* to C including English (Language or Literature) and Maths at Grade 4 or above. We also expect four of these grades to A* to B level and for you to have achieved a minimum of B grades in the subjects you wish to study at A Level. Where you have not studied a subject before, you will be judged on your overall GCSE results. If you have not achieved these grades but still wish to apply for a place at Sixth Form you must do so through the appeals process.
How to confirm your place
Members of the sixth form leadership team will be in school on GCSE results day, Thursday 24th August. If you have achieved the required grades for entry to Sixth Form you can confirm your place with us on the day. If you have not achieved the necessary grades we will be offering advice regarding the appeals process.
Alternatively, you can confirm your place via email. To do this please email us at [email protected]. You will need to include your A Level subject choices in your email. You will receive an automated response to your email confirming that we have received it.
Whether you choose to confirm your place in person or via email the deadline is Monday 28th August. If you have not confirmed your place by this date we will not be able to guarantee you a place.
Subject Choices
When confirming your place you will need to select three or four subjects, do not worry if you have changed your mind regarding your subject choices since your initial application. In addition to you’re A Levels you will also have the chance to study for the EPQ or a sports leadership qualification, details of these will be provided during your first week. Please note that the expectation is that the majority of students will only choose three A Levels. Please use the attached option blocks to make your subject choices and include them in your confirmation email.
When you arrive In September, you will enrol and follow lessons in your subject choices. At the end of four weeks, we will make you a formal curriculum offer by letter which will be accepted by a signature from you and a parent/carer. This period of four weeks before the formal curriculum offer is made is designed to give you the time to ensure that you have selected the right curriculum for yourself and, where necessary, to make changes. Don’t worry! Whether you have been at KESA from year 7 or you are coming from another school, sixth form will be a new experience for you but one we are sure you will really enjoy. There will be a wonderful mix of students from a variety of schools this year and we look forward to meeting you and helping you get settled.
The 2017 Autumn term starts on Thursday September 7th with a mixer event when you should meet us at 8.30am in the Sixth Form Study Room. There will be a number of events arranged for you and a BBQ lunch will be provided. The day will finish after lunch when you will be free to go home or ask the sixth form team any questions you may have. For the mixer day you do not need to follow the sixth form dress code and should instead where clothing appropriate for physical activity!
On Friday 8th of September Year 12 students will attend an interview with a member of the sixth form team. Individual appointment times for this will be given out on the Thursday. The purpose of this interview is to discuss your subject choices and ensure you are making the most informed choice possible based on your GCSE results and future plans.
On Monday 11th of September you will take part in a sixth form induction day when you will also have you photo taken and be issued with your timetable
Normal lessons will then begin on Tuesday 12th of September.
During these first few days the sixth Form team and Year 13 students will be here to greet and assist you. Some will be at the main gates and reception to help you find you way around. We are all looking forward to welcoming you to KES Academy Sixth Form and making a great start to the academic year.
Kind Regards
