North Kent Mind Job Description: ‘made in kent’ Project Coordinator Purpose of Post

‘made in kent’ is a new type of charity shop selling local crafts and art. All profits raised by this shop are donated to North Kent Mind, the local mental health charity and the project has a sound track record of getting people back into employment.

The new post of Project Coordinator will be responsible for overall store and project management. They will increase the financial viability of the shop at the same time as ensuring the project continues to be successful in enabling the trainees, who are people in recovery from mental health issues, achieve employment.

Structure of the Posts

The Project Coordinator will be line-managed by the Deputy CEO, but will receive strong mentoring support from the Employment Services Manager, who has previously managed the project.

The Project Coordinator will be an employee of North Kent Mind officially seconded to ‘made in kent’ which as a separate company, is the trading arm of the Charity.

The precise deployment of the hours allocated to this post will be negotiated between the Project Coordinator and their line-manager.

A: DUTIES OF THE POSTS: GENERAL

These duties apply to all North Kent Mind Staff:

1. To work within a framework which:

2. To participate in supervision and appraisal 3. To attend staff meeting and service team meetings 4. To attend training/meetings and some annual events as required 5. To undertake any other duties which the CEO or Board of Trustees may, from time to time, reasonably delegate or assign.

Key Responsibilities

Managing People

1. To supervise, support and appropriately delegate to volunteers and trainees 2. To facilitate regular team meetings 3. To ensure all who work in the shop are appropriately trained, including:  Comprehensive knowledge of all products  Understanding of the work of North Kent Mind  Customer Care  In-shop systems and procedures  Trading Standards  Individual training needs to enable trainees to achieve full employability 4. Ensure excellent communication and cooperation amongst shop workers.

Managing the shop

1. To provide an attractive well stocked shop and window display 2. To maintain the rota and ensure the shop has staff cover 6 days a week 3. To ensure the shop maintains the opening hours as advertised 4. To oversee and support the day to day running of the shop 5. To apply all procedures with regard to cash register, banking procedures, financial audits, security of takings, store administration etc 6. Act as main key holder and to delegate when appropriate

Maximising Profit

1. To strive to meet agreed sales goals 2. To maintain and create new relationships with stockists/ suppliers as required 3. To decide on goods to stock, and ensure competitive pricing of products 4. Control stock density/ rotation 5. Maximise the shops potential turnover, looking for new opportunities 6. Advise the line manager of key potential development issues, including promotion of the project , and work on agreed lines to implement agreed developments.
