T Taunton Volkswagen DF Saturday Football League SL NEWSLETTER SEASON 2011/2012 ISSUE 2 These items were discussed at our recent Management Committee Meeting held on 17th October 2012.

SATURDAY 31st DECEMBER 2011 Tony Good our Fixture Secretary sent an email to every Club asking whether there was any Teams/Clubs who were happy to play a fixture on this day. To date he has only received 7 replies. Could I please ask all Clubs/Teams to respond with a Yes or NO.

MATCH DAY SUSPENSIONS For those of you who were at the EGM this item was mentioned and I have recently been contacted by SFA to say that some Clubs are still informing the County of Rowbarton Cup Games. Can I PLEASE reiterate that the Rowbarton Cup does NOT constitute as a game as this is a voluntary Cup Competition, however if a player is suspended they CANNOT play whilst under suspension.

SPORTS CLUB ADMINISTRATION As you are aware we as a League are always proactive in looking at ways to communicate more easily and run our League more efficiently and also to help you our Clubs in any way that we can to elevate menial tasks and to make life for everybody easier, The system is now up and running and we have been receiving good feedback from various Clubs. If any Club has any problems with the system or any new ideas then please contact Nick Stilton.

PLAYING OF UN-REGISTERED PLAYERS OR BANNED PLAYERS Could I please ask that Clubs/Teams thinking of playing Un-registered players in games think again as you never know who is watching. The penalty is harsh including point deduction and fines. Also make sure that your players are not BANNED, especially when players are playing for Sunday teams. Check our website or indeed the SFA website.

CLUB REFEREE’S On behalf of the League, we would like to thank all Clubs who have supplied a Club Referee to get the fixture played, We have been liaising with the County over the current shortage and will review again at our next meeting. The FA are running courses so if any Club has anybody who is interested in taking up the whistle then let me know.

RESPECT CAMPAIGN As you all know we were one of the first to adopt the Respect Standard and my recent visits to some of our games have not highlighted too many problems, but would ask Team Managers and Club Captains to control their players and not allow remonstrating with the Referee, we need those MEN in black. Already this season we have had more games cancelled due to no Referee than last season.

FIRST AID COURSE We are hoping to run a FA first Aid course in the near future, at a cost of approx £17 per person, this has been subsidised by both the County and our League and we are limited to 24 places, the course will be run on an Evening, So if anybody is interested please let me know, remember having a qualified First aider is part of your Charter Standard status requirement. I shall be offering places out to the Taunton Youth League. So please act quickly.

PLAYERS REGISTERED We currently have 1433 players registered with the League and the new system of registering players/transferring/reinstating is working well.

CUP FINALS It was decided at the last Management Meeting that this season’s cup final gate money would be given to Charity,

ROWBARTON CHARITY CUP COMMITTEE As you know this Committee do a sterling job with regards to raising money for local charities and over the years have raised several thousands of pounds as a result of our Clubs playing in this competition. This year £500 was donated to St Margaret’s Hospice in recognition of the loss of Brian Knight who was one of our League Vice Presidents and a stalwart of Staplegrove FC as well as being a Rowbarton Committee member, with £250 being donated to The FORCE centre, both of these good causes have dealings with Cancer patients and we have lost both Players, Referees and Officials to this disease. We would like to thank the Rowbarton Cup Committee for their efforts over the years and long may it continue.

CLUB RESIGNATION It is with sadness that we have to report the withdrawal of Norton Fitzwarren Reserves due to long term injured players and an overall shortage of players, however they are hopeful of coming back in the future and we wish the Club well.

CHRISTMAS CHEER As this is the last newsletter before the Christmas and New Year break, may I take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and on behalf of the League thank all Club Officials and Players for their efforts this season and keep up the good work.
