Curriculum Standards Subgroup Meeting Notes Date: Tuesday, February 9, 2016 12:30 pm

Members present: Kristy Oriol, Nevada Network Against Domestic Violence Vicki Blakeney, Nevada Department of Education Deborah Duchesne, Program Coordinator for the Rape Prevention and Education Program Amanda Haboush-Deloye, NICRP/PCA-NV Christina Hall, NICRP and RCC Daniele Dreitzer, The Rape Crisis Center Jill Tolles, Original Task Force Member

1. Subgroup members reviewed the formal process of updating curriculum standards. a. The steps were reviewed: a.i. First step: subgroup members will need to present their intention to revise the current curriculum standards the Academic Standards Council. a.ii. Second step: subgroup will need to present their position to at least two Board of Education sessions a.iii. Third step: Present standard suggestions to the Legislative Commission b. Subgroup members discussed the type of revision process we are aiming towards (addendum vs. revision) b.i. Subgroup members decided that we are aiming towards an addendum that can be added to each grade block that adds additional curriculum standards to the already existing curriculum. b.i.1. Whether our proposal is an addendum or revision is up to the discretion of the Academic Standards Council. c. Subgroup members discussed the presentation for the Academic Standards Council c.i. Include testimony from teachers/administrators of success stories that have implemented CSAP programs/curriculum c.ii. In order to lower pushback from the council: have example curriculum standards additions for the presentation c.iii. Andre DeLeon proposed a general outline for the and members reviewed the outlined and assigned individuals to draft pieces by March 1st (details below). 2. Action Steps Before Next Meeting a. Andre DeLeon will locate the request form that is needed to set up a meeting with the Academic Standards Council (Victoria and Kristy will check with Andre about the form) b. Christina Hall will create a google doc for everyone to share their parts of the draft for the presentation (The document is called “Academic Standards Council Presentation). b.i. All members will include your part of the outline on the google doc by Tuesday, March 1st. b.i.1. Why should Nevada’s Schools do this? –Jill Tolles b.i.2. How will this look in schools? Timeline/Application? –Vicki Blakeney b.i.3. Challenges to implementation & how to overcome them? –Vicki Blakeney
