State Road 641 Bypass The project includes the construction of a new four-lane, full access control roadway connecting US 41 southeast of Terre Haute to I-70 east of the city. Phase III will begin northeast of Feree Road to east of Moyer Road and Phase IV will be from east of Moyer Road to the I-70 interchange.

Walsh Construction Co. of Crown Point was awarded the Phase III contract for $25.3 million. Utility relocation continues and construction has started this spring. This year the plan is for the contractor to construct embankment along S.R. 641 and begin construction of the five bridges on this contract, including work at the Riley Road/Tucker Street interchange.

Maintenance of Traffic for Phase III (Feree Road to east of Moyer Road)  The majority of Phase III will be constructed without interruption to traffic flow or changes to established traffic patterns  Phased construction and use of temporary pavement will be utilized to maintain traffic and access to adjoining properties.  Riley Road traffic will be maintained on the existing roadway until the relocated Riley Road is completed and the interchange bridge over proposed SR 641 is complete.

The Phase IV contract was awarded to Beaty Construction, Inc. from Boggstown for $46.8 million. The work this year will include: the I-70/SR 641 interchange ramp construction, and the contractor will build the Local Service Road along the east side of S.R. 46 which services the homes along that stretch, the KOA Campground, and our INDOT Terre Haute Subdistrict.

Maintenance of Traffic for Phase IV (East of Moyer Road to I-70)  Traffic will be maintained along SR 46 & I-70 at all times during construction.  I-70 will require temporary crossovers to complete work. Lane restrictions will take place on I-70 during construction.  Phase construction and the use of temporary ramps will be utilized to maintain all existing interchange ramp movements at I-70/SR 46.

The entire bypass, connecting US 41 on the south to I-70 on the north should be open to traffic by the fall of 2016.
