“Making a Difference” Teresa W. Hargrett Principal

July, 2009

CONGRATULATIONS Floyd Family!

Your home school made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) again this year! Floyd’s students have made history! Two consecutive years of making AYP removes the school’s name from the previous needs improvement list. While we are off the list, we know that there is much more work to be done!

We appreciate the hard work on everyone’s part. Our students, teachers, administrators, parents, support staff and supportive community contributed to our success. Please help us continue a tradition for excellence by having a high regard for learning and being present everyday.

Last year’s theme was “Learning Forward;” this year our theme is “Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships for Learning.” We aim to move our students to greater heights in their learning and realize the importance of the three R’s (rigor, relevance, and relationships) in order to make that happen.

You may have heard that Floyd is implementing a standard dress code for the 2009-2010 school year. Yes! As we strive for even higher achievement, we have higher measures to attain next year. We need students focused on learning more and more. Distractions such as dress code issues and misbehavior impede our progress; therefore, we aim to unify and magnify our students’ academic potential. Physical education classes will also follow a standard dress code. Shirts and shorts may be purchased for $15 for the complete outfit or students may choose to wear solid navy shorts (which must be athletic mesh shorts of appropriate length- 6” inches or longer) and solid gray shirts.

Enclosed you will find a copy of the standard dress code, a size chart to use as a guide in selecting pants that fit at the waist, a copy of the new version of “What’s Right with Floyd,” supply list, and a list of things you can do at Meet/Greet on Thursday, August 6, 1:30-3:00.
