IT’S CHARTER DAY!!!! -- WHAT TO EXPECT

SATURDAY CHECKOUT: SAFETY MEETING AT THE LOFT:

All Captains MUST attend along with Second Mate or anyone who will be navigating. Our insurance coverage requires repeat Skipper’s to attend as well. The meeting is in the Loft which is across the parking lot from the Bellhaven office. The meeting can take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hr. and will include the following:

• Washington Boater Safety • Radio Communications • Chartbooks & Do Not Go Into “Red Zones” or as they are commonly referred to as “Killer Rocks” • Emergency Procedures • Clearing Customs • WA Sales Tax Refund • Check In Procedures

**NOTE: If you would like to start your check out process on Friday we do allow sleepaboards. There is an extra charge of $100.00.

ON BOARD CHECKOUT AND BOAT HANDLING:

On board check out can take approximately two hours and includes:

• Operating systems: electronics, plumbing, engine, electrical system, etc. • Handling characteristics particular to your boat • Location of all safety gear • Slip and marina maneuvering

Please do not load the boat until the onboard orientation has been completed. While the Captain is going Through the checkout we suggest your crew go do the provisioning.

WELCOME ABOARD:

Provisioning – several large supermarkets (Fred Meyers and Haggens) and Costco are located within a few miles of Bellhaven. Each boat is supplied with basics such as salt & pepper, lemon pepper, garlic powder, all-purpose seasoning, olive oil or canola oil. Plastic wrap, foil, plastic baggies, garbage bags, 1 roll of paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap, dish soap, general purpose and bathroom cleaner. Dish cloth, kitchen towels and deck rags are also provided. A coffee maker, pots and pans, dishes and utensils are also provided. Ice is available at LFS here in the harbor and/or the grocery stores.

Meal Suggestions: Breakfast: cold cereals, yoguart and fruit are easy Lunch: Sandwiches, chips Dinner: Each vessel has a BBQ so chicken, steaks or the fish you will be catching would be great!

What to Pack – pack light! Bring clothes you can layer to be comfortable in the varied conditions you are likely to encounter. We suggest:

 Wind breaker  Fleece top and pants as well as your regular shorts/capris or jeans 1  Warm cap or hat for chilly mornings, depending on the time of year  Sunglasses  Bathing suit …. It does get warm enough to swim in the Northwest!!  Camera and charger  Toiletries  Please wear non-skid, rubber-soled shoes that don’t leave black marks on the decks. Storage aboard is limited so please restrict your baggage to soft-sided luggage and duffels that are easy to stow.

Items you will find on board:

 The boat will be fueled and the water tank topped off.  Outboard fuel will be provided for your dinghy.  San Juan Islands Chart #18421 and Mapteck Chart Book are onboard. PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THEM FROM THE BOAT.  Ports & Passages, Washburn’s Tides & Currents, Waggoner’s Cruising Guide are onboard. PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THEM FROM THE BOAT.  Propane or alcohol for the stove, as applicable, plus 1 propane bottle for the BBQ.  Our vessels are equipped with 12-volt outlets for your chargers.  If you require a CPAP for breathing please let us know.

All boats have pillows and pillow protectors for each berth. Power boat charters include linens, towels, blankets and/or comforter. There is an extra charge for salon bedding and towels, if you request them. Sailboat charters do not include bedding or linens but are available for rent. Bedding sets are $35. and towel sets are $10. for each set.

LICENSES REQUIRED: If you intend to fish and/or crab you will need a license and regulations pamphlet from the State of Washington. Licenses are available online or at Lummi Fishery Supply (LFS) marine store which is located here in the Squalicum Harbor as you turn onto Coho Way or go to: https://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov/ for more information.

CROSSING INTO CANADA: On entering Canada and re-entering the U.S. you must comply with the standard restrictions and procedures that apply to all international travelers. A comprehensive list of entry ports and telephone numbers can be found in the Waggoner Cruising Guide on page 15.
