Dress Code Policy

DRESS CODE POLICY

Appropriate Attire Appropriate attire and acceptable appearance strongly correlate with school success. Collins Lane students are expected to be neatly dressed and well-groomed at all times. All clothing should make a positive impact on the CLE community and not distract from the learning environment. Other than on theme days, the following is a description of generally acceptable attire for students attending Collins Lane Elementary:  Slacks or jeans  Leggings with mid-thigh top  Shirt, blouse, top or T-shirt  Sleeveless shirts may be worn if width is 3 fingers wide of material  Sweater or vest in appropriate weather  Below the mid-thigh length shorts  Below the mid-thigh length dress or skirt  Sweatshirt, sweatpants, track suits/warm ups  Appropriate footwear (tennis shoes are required on Physical Education days)

Prohibited The dress code prohibits the following:  Cropped tops, tube tops, bare backs, bare midriffs, bare shoulders, bare chests  Short shorts, cut offs, bike shorts  Leggings without a mid-thigh top  Backless shoes and flip flops on PE days  Wheeled shoes, hats or bandanas in the building- except on Spirit/Hat day  Coats worn during the day, unless building conditions require them  Sunglasses  Miniskirts, shorts and dresses shorter than mid-thigh  Pants/jeans worn below the hip bones  Any clothing representing illegal activities for minors including drugs, alcohol, sex, gangs or violence  Any clothing with inappropriate and/or negative words or phrases  Other items considered inappropriate by the teachers or Principal

Consequences for Dress Code Violations:

1. Parent contact to correct the offense. i.e. Parents bring in change of clothes.

2. Parent contact to correct offense and minor discipline notice. 3. Parent contact to correct the offense and meet with administration.

POLICY EVALUATION We will evaluate the effectiveness of this policy through our School Improvement Planning Process.
