Small Animal Management Victoria West High School

Instructional Goals By the end of this course, you will be prepared for careers in the field of animal science having enhanced academic knowledge and skills related to animal systems career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply, and transfer knowledge and skills in a variety of settings. Suggested small animals which may be included in the course of study include, but are not limited to, small mammals, amphibians, reptiles, avian, dogs, and cats. At the end of this course, you will… . Describe the importance of responsible small animal ownership. . Learn the hazards associated with working in the small animal industry. . Evaluate current topics in animal rights and animal welfare. . Know the care and management requirements for a variety of small animals. . Examine career opportunities in small animal care. . Learn the employability characteristics of a successful employee. . Develop a supervised agriculture experience program as it relates to agriculture, food, and natural resources. Required Materials To successfully complete this course, you will need . Binder with paper or spiral to take notes . Pen or pencil . Old clothes for lab (optional)

The syllabus is tentative and used as a guideline for the course. The instructor reserves the right to make adjustments to instruction.

Exemption Policy

Midterm/Finals will count for 15% of the semester’s grades.
