Home Shows

 Hosted largest Tour of Remodeled Homes in September with 18 projects.

 Held successful Home Products Expo with first regional green theme.

 Cavalcade of Homes in May featured 46 new homes throughout the region.

Networking/Social

 Hosted Thirsty-Thursdays- a new after work networking opportunity.

 Scheduled Inaugural Ball, Elections Night and Awards Luncheon.

 Over 300 golfers attended the annual outing in June.

 Hosted profitable Table Top Night in March.

 First-ever Grills Gone Wild summer outing was held on the HBA grounds.

 Hosted Associates Golf Outing, Keeneland Outing and Bowling Party.

 Land Development Council sponsored 10 luncheons with public officials including Senator McConnell, Congressman Davis and the Lt. Governor.

Marketing/Communications

 Award-winning Builder/Realtor Bash was held in April, sponsored by the Sales & Marketing Council. NAHB presented the HBA of NKY with national recognitions for this successful program.

 Sales & Marketing Council Awards Program was held in October.

 Spring SAM Tram caravan featured 6 homes in Campbell County.

 Redesigned new HBA web site, which includes new homes search service, to be launched in February 2009.

1  Implemented first-ever media marketing program to increase enrollment in Enzweiler Apprentice Training Program.

 Published 12 issues of the HBA’s Northern Kentucky Builder magazine, with revised format and improved content.

 Published 2008-2009 HBA Who’s Who Membership Directory.

 Sponsored 10th season of the HBA’s My New Kentucky Home TV Show.

 Published monthly guest columns in the Kentucky Enquirer’s HomeTrends section of the Sunday edition.

 Participated in numerous TV and newspaper articles on industry-related topics.

 Entered into partnership with Verizon Wireless that provides significant discounts to members on both equipment and service.

 Entered into partnership with Speedway Super Fleet which results in gasoline savings for HBA members.

Membership

 A total of 130 new members joined the HBA in 2008, resulting in a total membership for the year of 1,350.

 New Affiliate member program was launched generating 178 new members.

 Spring membership drive brought in 93 new HBA members, 8th most in the nation.

 Over 400 members participated on committees, task forces and focus groups.

 Acquired new counties of Fleming and Robertson in HBA jurisdiction---increasing total counties in jurisdiction to 12.

Education

 Over 600 members attended HBA job safety training workshops.

 Two NAHB designation courses, Green Building and Aging in Place, were held.

 Over 40 seminars, workshops and courses were held with over 1000 members attending for a total of 113.5 credit hours.

 Redesigned curriculum for all three Enzweiler Apprentice Training Program trades to meet changing market conditions.

2  115 participated in the HBA’s Enweiler Apprentice Trades Training Program in carpentry, electricity and HVAC.

 Held first pre-apprentice program in electricity during the summer months.

 Thousands of dollars in new equipment was added to the Apprentice Program shops.

 HBA staff participated in 35 high school, technical school career days and job fairs promoting careers in construction.

Government Affairs/Advocacy

 Obtained KY Attorney General Opinion which led to the rescission of the NKAPC’s requirement that building permit applicants provide the employers ‘identification numbers of all subcontractors prior to issuance of a residential certificate of occupancy.

 Provided amicus brief in favorable KY Supreme Court decision that overturned a lower court’s decision that would have had a detrimental impact on the ability of HOAs to collect community maintenance fees.

 Completed implementation of HBA’s Government Contact Network, which includes over 40 participants.

 Successful in obtaining several amendments to the new Boone County Zoning Regulations. Successful in lowering fee increases.

 Successful in obtaining several amendments to the Kentucky Residential Code dealing with home sprinklers, arch-fault and tamper proof electrical outlet requirements, basement wall insulation requirements and smoke detectors.

 Assisted in obtaining changes to several provisions of Covington’s new hillside development requirements.

 Successful extension of Sanitation District’s sewer tap reservation policy for new residential developments and amended definition of multi-family, commercial and industrial service placement.

 Provided written comments on new KY Division of Water general construction permit.

 Provided political action financial support, through the Political Housing Club, leading to the election of 10 of 12 supported candidates.

Community Service

 Contributed the single largest dollar and in-kind amount of community service efforts in the HBA’s history---with 2008’s efforts generating over $180,000.

3  Provided materials, funding and labor to build a new single family home in Ludlow for Housing Opportunities of NKY (HONK).

 Renovated home in Covington for disabled Iraq war veteran.

 Repaired storm damaged buildings at Covington’s Garden of Hope.

 Provided funds to Senior Citizens of Northern Kentucky through Women’s Community Action Council.

 Provided 6 scholarships to students participating in the HBA’s Enzweiler Apprentice Training Program.

 Hosted blood drive for Hoxworth Blood Center, clothing drive for Cinderella’s Closet and food drive for Action Ministries and handicapped accessible sandbox for Burlington Elementary.

 Provided carpentry and electricity training text books to high school students at McCormick Alternative Technical Center.

 Provided funds to YouthBuild, a training program for at-risk young adults. HBA was recognized by the Northern KY Community Action Commission as its Community Partner of the Year for its ongoing efforts with YouthBuild.

 HBA’s Women’s Community Action Council received 2nd place honors nationally from the NAHB for its ongoing efforts to build a better community.

Building

 Completed work on outside storage building located on HBA grounds.

 Completed equipment and infrastructure requirements in HVAC shop.

 Made improvements in building conference and events center.
