SYLLABUS - ACRYLIC PAINTING 188

General - In addition to developing basic painting skills, students will explore color & composition, & will explore various approaches to painting, including traditional & contemporary. Students should expect to spend a minimum of two hours outside class for every hour in class (8 hours/week or more.)

Painting Assignments - Students will do a series of major projects as well as shorter exercises both in class and at home.

Sketchbooks - students are expected to work continuously in sketchbooks which will be graded periodically. Work will include preliminary compositions, color studies, color sketches, and practicing blending & glazing techniques.

Attendance –Attendance is required. This is an in-class learning experience & students are required to work on projects in class under guidance of the instructor. Poor attendance will adversely affect final grade. Students missing class are responsible for completing the work missed; critiques cannot be made up.

Critiques - Critiques are an integral & valuable part of this class. Students learn to analyze & evaluate their own & others' work. Attendance at critiques is required.

Evaluation - Paintings must be turned in on time (6 pm on due date) for maximum grade. Late work will be marked down & after two days may not be accepted. A "C" is the highest possible grade if all work has not been turned in. Students will be evaluated on the following: 70% paintings 20% exercises/sketchbooks 10% critiques/attendance
