Blood Type Lab

Blood type lab

Purpose: to test for the different blood types using antigens of blood type a and b to see if they cause clumping of the blood. Which the clumping of the blood means that they are that blood type. To be able to use the proper type of blood type (a+, a-, b+, b-, ab+, ab-, o+, o-) to give to the person in need of blood.

Hypothesis: we will be able to successfully determine blood type using the antigen a and antigen b to determine the blood type. The blood types can either be a, b, ab, o.

Materials: blood of (Jane, John, Wiley, David), antigen a & antigen b, little stirring stick, tablet with a and b and rh on it.

Procedure: pick a persons blood to test them. Place one drop of blood on the tablet in both a and b slot. Then put one drop of antigen a in the a slot and put antigen b in the b slot. If the solution turns clumpy it is that type of blood. If both a and b turn clumpy it is ab blood. If no clumping occurs it then o blood.

Observations: the solution that is not the type of blood turns dark. The lighter one of the two turns clumpy and kind of crispy. It looks like way too sugary water or juice.

Discussion: Question 1: the difference between a test when the blood clumps is because the antigens a track down the different a substances and attached to each other causing the clumping. The antigens is a substance recognized as foreign by the body and which tigers the body’s white blood cells to produce the antibodies. Which is a substance secreted by white blood cells to neutralize invaders.

Question 2: Wiley can get 2 L of blood from john and David because they have o and ab blood. While Jane because she has a blood type she cannot donate blood to Wiley.

Blood typing games questions: what happens to the patients when they don’t get the right blood the patients blood clumps when its antibodies attack and bind to the red blood cells of the transfused blood. Blood clumping is dangerous because it causes the red blood cells to crack and spread its contents in the body resulting in toxic reactions and death.

Question 3: Wiley is b blood type because he has b antigens and b antibodies. Jane Is a blood type because she has an antigen and antibodies. John is o blood type because he has o antigens and o antibodies. David has ab blood type because he has ab antigens and ab antibodies. Conclusion: Wiley has b blood type and Jane has A blood type. John has o blood type. David has AB blood type. So that’s th peoples blood types that we learned about from the lab.
