Napton Village Hall Management Committee
Chairman’s Report for Annual General Meeting - 11th April 2016
. We have enjoyed another successful year. The end of year balance shows a slight increase after having invested in the new Jubilee Room boiler. Income was higher, an increase in hire revenue more than compensating for a reduction in income from events.
. There have been no significant improvements or alterations in the year since the last agm but expenditure on repair and maintenance has continued at a level similar to the previous year. Our thanks are due to those committee members who have the time and skills to carry out this work and to organise professional help where it is needed. The list of jobs is ongoing with time and we have a forward plan, and contingency fund, for potential replacements and improvements.
. The regular community meetings and social events continue. The weekly Whist Drive, is well attended and makes an increasingly valuable contribution to VH income. The annual Flower and Produce Show is a significant contributor to funds. ‘Nosh & Natter’ and ‘Jubilee Tea Room’ provide an excellent social gathering, especially for older members of the community and we held another Christmas fair which was financially successful. We continue to attract internationally recognised entertainers, including Sean Cannon with his sons, and Blackheart, and we plan to host Vin Garbutt in September. We appreciate and value the time and energy required to organise and run these events and our sincere thanks are due to the principle organisers and everyone else involved.
. The VH continues to host regular activities and meetings organised by individual hirers, groups and organisations, both community and commercial. The VH is becoming recognised as a venue for parties and weddings and by a number of non-village groups and organisations who have held meetings, attracted by the facilities and central location. The annual Music Festival attracted performers and visitors from far afield, the Art Group is well supported and the Pantomime is sold out for most performances.
. Napton Village Hall is a community asset but it has to be managed. My thanks are due to all VH Management Committee members for their contribution to the managenent of the Village Hall and for their individual efforts in organising or supporting events and activities. Additionally, on behalf of the committee I wish to express our gratitude and thanks to those with special responsibilities
. Stef Betteridge who, with Ken’s assistance, keeps our hall in an immaculate state. . Andrew Scott who audited the accounts. . Jim Sleight for maintaining our Web site and sorting out our IT issues . Lewis Commander, who is not only our Treasurer, but as well acts as Booking Clerk and Maintenance Manager. . Ken Betteridge for his work as Secretary and all the extra responsibilities that entails. . And finally I make no apology for repeating myself in again thanking everyone who has carried out maintenance, organised events, helped at functions and generally ensured the success of Napton Village Hall. It goes without saying that we rely on volunteers to keep the hall going for use by the community. We need a few more.
