This prayer asks God to prepare our hearts to love Him and praise Him properly and it changes every week to match the overall theme of the Sunday. The Collect of the Day

Celebrant The Lord be with you. People And with your spirit. Celebrant Let us pray.

Almighty God, you know that we have no power in ourselves to help ourselves: Keep us both outwardly in our bodies and inwardly in our souls, that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Scripture Lessons The Bible is at the heart of our worship, because in it we read and understand the very words of God. Every word in the Bible has come from God and is vitally important so that we can know His heart and His truth. Each week during our service, we read a section of the Old Testament, a Psalm, a section from the New Testament, and a reading from the Gospels. If you do not have your own Bible, we would like to give you one as a free gift – please speak to a clergy member or an usher.

Old Testament Lesson: Exodus 20:1-7 Then God gave the people all these instructions: 2 “I am the LORD your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery. 3 “You must not have any other god but me. 4 “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. 5 You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me.6 But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands. 7 “You must not misuse the name of the LORD your God. The LORD will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name. The Word of the Lord.

People Thanks be to God

Psalm: 19:7-14 7 The instructions of the LORD are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. 8 The commandments of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are clear, giving insight for living. 9 Reverence for the LORD is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the LORD are true; each one is fair. 10 They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. 11 They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them. 12 How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. 13 Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin. 14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

Epistle Lesson: Romans 7:13-25 18 The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. 19 As the Scriptures say, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.”20 So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. 21 Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe. 22 It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom.23 So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense. 24 But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength. The Word of the Lord.

Gospel Hymn: “Sanctuary”

Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary, pure and holy, tried and true With thanksgiving, I’ll be a living sanctuary for You.

Deacon The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St. John. People Glory to you, Lord Christ. From the earliest days of the Christian Church, the reading of Scripture has been followed by a teaching (or sermon) to help the believers understand how the Scriptures help us live our Christian lives. Throughout the year at Christ Church, you will hear sermons from Fr. Brian and Fr. Don or one of our Deacons, Dee or Rosalind. Gospel: John 2:13-22 13 It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration, so Jesus went to Jerusalem. 14 In the Temple area he saw merchants selling cattle, sheep, and doves for sacrifices; he also saw dealers at tables exchanging foreign money. 15 Jesus made a whip from some ropes and chased them all out of the Temple. He drove out the sheep and cattle, scattered the money changers’ coins over the floor, and turned over their tables.16 Then, going over to the people who sold doves, he told them, “Get these things out of here. Stop turning my Father’s house into a marketplace!” 17 Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: “Passion for God’s house will consume me.”18 But the Jewish leaders demanded, “What are you doing? If God gave you authority to do this, show us a miraculous sign to prove it.” 19 “All right,” Jesus replied. “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” 20 “What!” they exclaimed. “It has taken forty-six years to build this Temple, and you can rebuild it in three days?” 21 But when Jesus said “this temple,” he meant his own body. 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered he had said this, and they believed both the Scriptures and what Jesus had said. The Gospel of the Lord.

People Praise to You, Lord Christ.

Gospel Hymn Continued: “Sanctuary”

Nicene Creed

This is a statement of our Christian belief that was written by an early counsel of Christians in Nicaea who wanted to create a simple statement of true Biblical Christianity. Note, the

Let us confess our faith in the words of the Nicene Creed: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

This is a time for group prayer as well as personal prayers. Please prayerfully respond to the leader with the words in bold type. And please add your own prayers of thanksgiving and intercession either silently or aloud when invited to do so.

The Prayers of the People

Let us pray for the whole state of Christ’s Church and the world. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Help us to fulfill your great commission; making disciples of all nations; teaching them to obey all that you have commanded. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Give grace, heavenly Father, to all Bishops, Priests, and Deacons, and especially to Foley Beach, our Archbishop; Keith Andrews, our Bishop; Fr. Brian and Fr. Don, our Priests; and Dee Renner and Rosalind Marver, our Deacons, that by their life and teaching, they may proclaim your true and life-giving Word, and rightly administer your holy Sacraments. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We ask you to rule the hearts of all who govern us. May they administer justice, govern wisely, and strive for the welfare and peace of the whole world. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We humbly ask you, gracious Lord, to comfort and strengthen all those who, in this earthly life are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any other adversity. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

I invite you to add your own thanksgivings or requests at this time.

We bless your holy Name for all your servants who departed this life in your faith and fear, praying you would grant us grace to follow their good examples, that with them we might partake in your heavenly kingdom. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

The Deacon concludes with the following prayer

Grant these our prayers, O Father, for Jesus Christ’s sake, our only Mediator and Advocate. Amen.

The Confession and Absolution of Sin

Deacon We pray to you also for the forgiveness of our sins.

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have no t loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and with true faith turn to him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Peace Now that we have confessed our sins to God, we share God’s peace with one another. In order to further prepare our hearts for Communion, this time is offered to give members an opportunity to be reconciled with one another. If there is any unforgiveness between you and another member of God’s family, this is the time to extend God’s peace to that person and be reconciled. People in the church typically shake hands or hug fellow worshipers and say, “The peace of the Lord be with you,” or simply, “peace”. Celebrant The Peace of the Lord be always with you. People And with your spirit. Birthday Prayer – Pray together O God, our times are in your hand: Look with favor we pray on you servant as he begins another year. Grant that he may grow in wisdom and grace, and strengthen his trust in your goodness all the days of his life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Anniversary Prayer & Blessing of the Marriage O God, you have so consecrated the covenant of marriage that in it is represented the spiritual unity between Christ and his Church: Send therefore your blessing upon these your servants, that they may so love, honor, and cherish each other in faithfulness and patience, in wisdom and true godliness, that their home may be a haven of blessing and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, bless, preserve, and keep you; the Lord mercifully with his favor look upon you, and fill you with all spiritual benediction and grace; that you may faithfully live together in this life, and in the age to come have life everlasting. Amen.

Offertory Sentence

Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come into his courts! Psalm 96:8

You may place money (check or cash) in the offering plate that will go toward the work of Christ Church to build the kingdom of God in Fallbrook and beyond. You may enter into singing or simply listen, and you may sit or stand as you feel led. This is a time of offering our gifts to the Lord.

Offertory Anthem: “Beneath the Waters (I Will Rise)” This is my revelation, Christ Jesus crucified Salvation through repentance at the cross on which He died Now here my absolution, forgiveness for my sin And I sink beneath the waters that Christ was buried in I will rise, I will rise as Christ was raised to life. Now in Him, now in Him I live I stand a new creation, baptised in blood and fire No fear of condemnation, by faith I'm justified I rise as You are risen, declare Your rule and reign. My life confess Your Lordship and glorify Your Name Your word it stands eternal, Your kingdom knows no end. Your praise goes on forever, and on and on again No pow'r can stand against You, no curse assault Your throne No one can steal Your glory for it is Yours alone I stand to sing Your praises, I stand to testify, for I was dead in my sin But now I rise, I will rise as Christ was raised to life. Now in Him, now in Him I live Doxology Praise God from whom all blessings flow, praise him all creatures here below, Praise him above ye heavenly hosts, praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. HOLY COMMUNION

The words of this part of the service are taken directly from the Biblical account of the Last Supper when Jesus took the bread and wine and invited the disciples to eat and drink of His body and blood. We do this in remembrance of Jesus, just as He instructed and we believe God is with us in this holy feast. Celebrant The Lord be with you. People And with your spirit. Celebrant Lift up your hearts. People We lift them to the Lord. Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People It is just and right so to do. It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, because you have given us the spirit of discipline, that we may triumph over the flesh, and live no longer for ourselves but for him who died for us and rose again, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name: “Christ Church Lenten Sanctus” Holy, holy, holy, God of power, God of power and might Heaven and earth are full of your glory, Hosanna on high Blessed is the One Who comes in the Name of the Lord Blessed is the One Who comes in the Name of the Lord Hosanna in the highest

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, in your tender mercy, you gave your only Son Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption. He offered himself and made, once for all time, a perfect and sufficient sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. He instituted this remembrance of his passion and death, which he commanded us to continue until he comes again. So now, Father, we ask you to bless and sanctify, with your Word and Holy Spirit, these gifts of bread and wine that we may partake of his most blessed Body and Blood.

On the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this is my Body which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me.”

After supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me.” Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. Lord and heavenly Father, with these holy gifts we celebrate the memorial instituted by your beloved Son, remembering his passion and death, his resurrection and ascension, and his promise to come again. Grant that by his merits and death, and through faith in his Blood, we and your whole Church may receive forgiveness of our sins and all other benefits of his passion, making us one body with him that he may dwell in us, and we in him. And here we offer to you, O Lord, ourselves, our souls and bodies, to be a living sacrifice, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

By him and with him and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and forever. Amen. The Lord’s Prayer

Celebrant And now as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

The Fraction

Celebrant Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. People Therefore let us keep the feast.

Fraction Anthem: “How Deep The Father's Love For Us” How deep the Father's love for us, how vast beyond all measure That He should give His only Son to make a wretch His treasure How great the pain of searing loss, the Father turns His face away As wounds which mar the Chosen One bring many sons to glory Behold the Man upon a cross, my sin upon His shoulders Ashamed I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers It was my sin that held Him there until it was accomplished His dying breath has brought me life I know that it is finished I will not boast in anything, no gifts, no pow’r, no wisdom But I will boast in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer But this I know with all my heart His wounds have paid my ransom

The Ministration of Communion Celebrant Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb. John 1:29, Revelation 19:9

All baptized Christians may receive Holy Communion. You may eat the bread and take a sip from the chalice or dip your bread into the chalice. Gluten free hosts are available upon request. All are welcomed to come forward for a blessing. If you are not receiving communion, simply cross your arms when you reach one of the priests. This indicates to them that you would like a special blessing.

Members of the healing ministry are available to pray for you or for your loved ones.

The Post Communion Prayer Celebrant Let us pray. Heavenly Father, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living members of the Body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal kingdom. And now, Father, send us out into the world to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and forever. Amen.

The Blessing

The peace of God which passes all understanding keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you, and remain with you always. Amen.

Closing Hymn: “Days of Elijah”

These are the days of Elijah, declaring the Word of the Lord And these are the days of Your servant Moses, righteousness being restored And these are the days of great trial, of famine and darkness and sword Still, we are a voice in the desert crying “Prepare ye the way of the Lord”

Behold He comes, riding on the clouds, shining like the sun at the trumpet call Lift your voice, it’s the year of Jubilee and out of Zion’s hill, salvation comes!

These are the days of Ezekiel, the dry bones becoming as flesh And these are the days of Your servant David, rebuilding the temple of praise These are the days of the harvest, the fields are as white in the world And we are the laborers in the vineyard Declaring the Word of the Lord.
