Contest Date - 10 February , 2002

The second Edition of the highly successful BitWISE Programming Contest is here. The Brainchild of the Computer Science and Engineering Society( IIT Kharagpur), BitWISE is one of its kind. It not only taxes your programming skills but also your ability to analyze problems and develop algorithms, all in half a day.

CONTEST RULES

 The contest is open to everybody.

 Final Year B.Tech (Hons) students of the

Department of Computer Science and

Engineering of IIT Kharagpur cannot

participate in the contest.

 To participate you need to submit the online

registration form at our website.

Registration will start from 25 Jan 2002.

There is no registration fee.

 There are special early bird registration

prizes. You could win a great T-shirt !!

 The last date for registration is 8th

February 2002.

 You are allowed to form teams of two

members.

 One person can be a member of at most one

team. If we find the same person in more

than one team, all the teams of which he/she is a member will be disqualified from

the contest.

 The contest will be organised over the

Internet. Problems will be put up on our

websites on 10th February 2002 . Exact

time of the contest and other details will be

put up here by Friday, 1st Feb 2002. You

will be required to submit your solutions

anytime within the next 12 hours of the

start. Your programs will be evaluated

automatically on our servers and feedback

will be mailed to you in real-time.

 The CSE Department Society reserves the

right to disqualify any contestant/team

without citing any reason whatsoever. No

enquiries will be entertained in this matter.

 If two or more teams are found to have any

source code similar or in common, all of them

will be disqualified from the contest. No

enquiries will be entertained in this matter.

 The decision of the CSE Department

Society with regard to all matters relating

to or arising out of the contest will be final

and binding on all participants. No enquiries

will be entertained in this matter.  All entries sent in will become the property

of the CSE Department Society, IIT

Kharagpur.

 No disputes arising out of or relating to this

contest shall be entertained.

One First Prize worth Rs. 10,000.

Test Run

What to do...  Test Run is over. Thanks for your support. We will start the test run again tomorrow.  The problem submission system is up for you to test and get familiar with.  We have 2 sample problems One and Two. You can write your own solution to it or use our solution from the site.  Please observe this file naming convention. Call your solution "0.c" for problem number 1 and "1.c" for problem number 2, if they are C programs. Call them "0.cc" and "1.cc" if they are C++ programs.  Upload the solution here. You will need your registration id and team name.  Your solution will be compiled and evaluated for test cases. 1. The upload page has been changed. A drop down list for the choice of programming language has been added. While uploading the problems please specify correctly the choice of the language. 2. The site is under continuous update. Please use the refresh button on your browser to ensure that you always see the latest version of the page you are viewing. 3. We can not handle submissions by email. Please upload your solutions. 4. The evaluation of your solution will be mailed to you within a few minutes of your submission. 5. Windows Users : Please check the file name to see that it does not have a .txt or .doc extension 6. Please adhere strictly to the output format specified in the problem statement. Remember that your program shall be evaluated by a computer. 7. You can use the standard C/C++ header files stdio.h , iostream.h , stdlib.h etc.

2. Who can participate? Ans. We invite participants from all over the world. This is an online contest and hence distance is no criterion. back

5. What languages can I use for coding ? Ans. We will use GNU C/C++ compiler on Linux platform. Further details will be put on the site soon.

6. What will be the problem mix ? Ans. BitWISE aims at testing both your coding and algorithm design skills. Problems will differ in levels of difficulty. To get a better idea of what you can expect see the BitWISE2k++ problem set.

7. What are the evaluation criteria? Ans. There are two criteria for evaluation. Correctness - Your program must produce the correct output in the specified format for our test inputs. Efficiency - With regards to Time taken and peak Memory used. The more difficult problems may reward you for partially correct ( Correct for some test cases ) solutions. back

8. How can I submit solutions ? Ans. You can upload the solutions by using your team id. We hope the test run scheduled on 7th evening will clarify your doubts.

9. Can I resubmit a solution? Ans. Yes, One can resubmit a solution as many times as one wants. We will consider the last submitted solution at any stage. There is no penalty for resubmissions.

10. What feedback shall I receive to my submissions? Ans. You will receive a mail informing you about the number of test cases cleared by your program and the tentative scores. The score might change depending on the efficiency of your algorithm. back

11. How will I receive my prize money ? Ans. Your prize money will be sent to you as an A/C payee cheque to the address provided at the time of registration.
