Dear Shortline Alumnus, The officers of the Shortline Alumni Association are happy to invite you to the 35 th annual gathering of all students and faculty that graduated from or attended any of the Shortline area schools. We have sponsored several fund-raising events over the past year in order to be able to make the weekend nicer for you. These events included a raffle for a Remington 7mm-08 rifle, a raffle for a Harley- Davidson motorcycle, a Poker Run and our annual Father’s Day ATV ride which provides the funds for the Keith Highley Scholarship. The weekend will begin with a home football game between the Valley Lumberjacks and the Weirton Madonna Blue Dons at Tom West Stadium on Friday, September 14 at 7:30 p.m. This game is being played in honor of all Shortline Alumni and former Senior Boys Basketball players will be honored during the pre-game ceremonies. A social will also be held on Friday, September 14 from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. in the Commons Area of Valley High School. Those not wishing to attend the football game can enjoy a visit with former classmates at the school and those that do attend the game can stop in afterwards. Refreshments will be available and there is no admission charged. Donations will be taken to help defray the cost of the refreshments. Bring your old yearbooks, photos and other memorabilia to help bring back all those enjoyable high school memories and reminisce with friends. There will be plenty of room available for classes wishing to reunite. Saturday will be kicked off with the annual Shortline Alumni Golf Scramble at one of the local golf courses. Please contact Jim West at 304-386-4883 or 304-266-6307 or Tim Starkey at 304-889-3423 for details on registering for the golf outing. The banquet will be held on Saturday, September 15 at 5:00 p.m. at the Short Line School in Reader, WV. Doors to the school will open at 4:00 p.m. The Town of Pine Grove does not currently have the funds needed to repair the air-conditioning system at the Robert C. Byrd Center, so we felt it best for both the servers and the attendees to move to a location that would provide a cooler atmosphere. Hopefully all will go well and we will be invited back to use the school’s facilities next year. The Junior Class will be preparing and serving the banquet in order to raise funds for Prom, so in order to avoid any loss to them, ADVANCE RESERVATIONS FOR THE BANQUET ARE REQUIRED! The cost for the banquet is $15.00 per person. Please notify Christine Cunningham Mitchell at 304-889- 3300 to reserve a table at the banquet for decade or class reunions. The business meeting, election of officers, introduction of the Keith Highley Scholarship recipients and presentation of the Honored Alumnus and Faculty Member will take place following the dinner. We will need to fill the position of the 2nd Vice-President and nominations will be taken from the floor. There will be a room available so that those attending the banquet and dance can wait while we prepare the tables for the dance. We ask that those in attendance at the banquet exit quickly to the provided area in order that the tables can be cleared quickly. The dance will begin at 9:00 p.m. and will end at 12:00 a.m. The dance is for Shortline alumni only! Please do not ask us to admit non-alumni unless they are a spouse/guest of a Shortline alumnus – one guest per person. Admission for the dance is $10.00 per person. Advance reservations will be accepted or you can pay at the door. This year’s musical entertainment is DJ Johnny from Mid- Ohio Valley DJ & Karaoke Entertainment, who will provide dance club effects such as stage lights, sound- activated lights, strobe lighting, a star-ball for slow dancing, laser lights and a fog machine. Our mailing list currently includes over 500 email addresses which helps to greatly lower our mailing costs by utilizing an electronic email invitation to those with internet access. Written notice of any amendments or revisions shall be in the hands of all members of the Association at least 30 days prior to the annual meeting”, we are attaching three proposed amendments of Article VII, Duties of Officers. Amendment No. 1 Article VII - Duties of Officers

G. All officers shall collectively be responsible for the Keith Highley Memorial Scholarship; this shall include fundraising efforts, management of finances, recipient selection and filing of any necessary tax returns. Guidelines for the scholarship are as follows:  A scholarship or scholarships shall be awarded to a Valley High School (VHS) senior with plans to attend college as long as there are funds available in the KHMS accounts. The amount of the scholarship and the number of scholarships awarded per year are at the discretion of the SAA officers. The scholarship shall be distributed in two parts: half of the amount shall be given at the beginning of the first semester and the remaining half shall be given at the beginning of the second semester, providing the recipient completed the first semester with at least a 2.0 GPA.  Applications for the scholarship will be supplied by the SAA and provided to all VHS seniors.  The recipient shall be selected by the SAA officers from all of the entrants that completed applications.  The recipients shall be required to attend the Annual Alumni Banquet and accept a plaque.  Fundraising efforts will be held at the discretion of the SAA officers; if an excess of funds are available, then fundraising efforts may be skipped until the following year.  In the event that Valley High School should ever consolidate with other schools in the county or surrounding counties, the funds shall continue to be used to award a scholarship to a student who resides in an area that previously would have attended Valley High School, until all funds are depleted. It will be at the discretion of the SAA officers as to whether or not to continue with the scholarship after a consolidation occurs. E. Additional responsibilities of the Corresponding Secretary shall be:  Submitting a Corporation License Tax Return yearly with applicable fees.  Submitting a Business Registration application yearly with applicable fees. F. Additional responsibilities of the Treasurer shall be:  Maintaining the Federal Employer Identification Numbers.  Filing any necessary tax returns on the checking account and the KHMS accounts.  Securing a second officer’s signature on all checks written and/or withdrawals made from all accounts, including the KHMS accounts. These By-Law Amendments, if passed by a 2/3 vote, will be acknowledged by a Notary Public and placed on record in the office of the Clerk of the County Commission of Wetzel County in Vol. 12 Page 52.
