SUBJECT: ICT Integrated Courses: Course information and Prerequisites

The ICT integrated courses aim to help educators integrate Information and Communication Technologies into teaching that enhances learning. These courses will capacitate educators with the relevant and appropriate ICT knowledge and skills, to integrate ICTs appropriately in teaching, learning and administration.

The following are the modules covered in these courses viz:

Moodle, WebQuest, Intel Teach Essentials and eContent

1. Moodle

Moodle is an acronym that stands for "Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment." Moodle is a learning management system. It was developed to help educators create online courses with a focus on interaction and collaborative construction of content, and is in continual evolution. The first version of Moodle was released on 20 August 2002. It is used by thousands of educational institutions around the world to provide an organized interface for e-learning, or learning over the Internet. Moodle allows educators to create online courses, which students can access as a virtual classroom. A typically Moodle home page will include a list of participants (including the teacher and students) and a calendar with a course schedule and list of assignments. Other Moodle features include online quizzes, forums, where students can post comments and ask questions, glossaries of terms, and links to other Web resources. WCED has its own Moodle site (Learning Management System) for e-learning purposes. See this link http://testing.wcape.school.za/elearn.

2. WebQuest

A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented lesson format in which most or all the information that learners work with comes from the web. These can be created using various programs, including a simple word processing document that includes links to websites. WebQuest - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
