IDDSI Committee Reaches Goal of Creating an International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation

IDDSI committee reaches goal of creating an International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative Framework

September 10, 2015: Three years of ongoing work by the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Committee has come to fruition. The committee is ready to officially launch the final dysphagia diet framework which consists of a continuum of 8 levels (0-7). Levels are identified by numbers, text labels and colour codes. A review of existing standards, available evidence and collaborative efforts from stakeholder groups has resulted in a framework that is culturally sensitive, measureable and applicable to individuals of all age groups in all care settings.

Key features of the framework include more descriptions and testing methods for levels of drink thickness and food textures. In order for the international community to understand and appreciate the features of the new framework, the launch has been staggered as follows: When Launch Where 12th September, 2015 Stage 1 Via www.iddsi.org and e-newsblast Official launch of the framework, labels, And and colours for the International Kyoto, Japan as part of the annual Dysphagia Diet Standardisation initiative meeting for the Japanese Society of Dysphagia Rehabilitation (JSDR). 25th September, 2015 Stage 2 Via www.iddsi.org and e-newsblast Official launch of detailed descriptions, And and testing methods for levels of drink Barcelona, Spain as part of the 5th thickness of the International Dysphagia meeting of the European Society of Diet Standardisation initiative Swallowing Disorders 9th October, 2015 Stage 3 Via www.iddsi.org and e-newsblast Official launch of detailed descriptions, And and testing methods for food texture Hangzhou, China as part of the levels of the International Dysphagia International Conference on Food for Diet Standardisation initiative the Elderly
