Course Checklist for Competency Assessment for Advanced

As well as the completion of two basic units of CPE, application for Competency Assessment for Advanced requires copies (scans) of official transcripts, diplomas or other evidence of completion of the first year of a qualifying masters degree in theology, spirituality, religion or a related clinical field, from an educational institution accredited by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS), or the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or equivalent accrediting body.

For Competency Assessment for Advanced, student will need to have completed:

a) 6 semester courses in the candidate’s own faith tradition (3 courses must be in one’s faith tradition and 3 courses can be in another faith tradition) in the following major religious/theological/spiritual disciplines: 1). Interpretation of Sacred Texts; 2) Teachings and Tenets of Faith; 3) Historical Studies of Faith Tradition, and 4) Moral Tenets/Faith- Based Ethics

One or more courses in each of the above 4 disciplines and at least 6 courses in total.

b) 4 semester courses in academic foundations for Spiritual Care Practice, ministry training, psychology, counselling. A previous unit of CPE can count for only one of these spiritual care practice courses.
