Approval of Minutes Moved by Mike Pavlik that the Board approve the minutes of the Regular April 9 Board meeting and the April 30 Special Board meeting as presented: Seconded by Rick Hendricks. Motion unanimously carried. Consent Items Moved by Mike Pavlik that the Board approve the consent items on the regular and supplemental agendas: Seconded by Rick Hendricks. Jeff has worked for the Sumner School District for 24 years and has 36 years of teaching experience. Gloria Terry, Spanish Teacher, Sumner High, effective end of 2007-2008 school year. Gloria has worked for the Sumner School District for 13 years and has 30 years of teaching experience. Myrna Vernon, Paraeducator, Sumner High, effective June 18, 2008. Myrna has worked for the Sumner School District for 23 years.

Acceptance of Donations The Board accepted, with thanks, Liberty Ridge Elementary PTO’s donation of $21,760.00 for Maintenance and Operations contracting to remove sod and install a gravel walking path at Liberty Ridge Elementary School. The Board accepted, with thanks, McAlder Elementary PTA’s donation of $5,541.56 for library books, a new lap top computer and Bare Books for student writing activities for McAlder Elementary School.

h. Out of State Travel Holly McIlvaine, Intervention Specialist, Bonney Lake High School, to attend the Michelle Garcia Winner’s Summit for Social Thinking in Santa Clara, California, June 21-22, 2008. This workshop relates to Holly's work with students on the autism spectrum. Funding source: IDEA budget (Special Services) for registration only. Remaining costs to be covered by participant. Craig Spencer, Assistant Superintendent, to attend the Professional Learning Communities at Work Institute in Las Vegas, Nevada, June 9-11, 2008. Funding source: professional development funds Ellen Berwick, Science Teacher, Bonney Lake High, to attend the Vernier AP Chemistry Workshop in San Diego, California, August 13-14, 2008. Funding source: science leadership grant

Reports a. Audit Report Executive Director Business Services Margo Stewart presented the audit report for the audit period September 1, 2006 through August 31, 2007. The audit was an outstanding one with no findings or management letter items. b. Professional Certification Report Professional Development Director Erin LaVerdiere gave a summary of the District’s professional certification program which provides teachers with four years of seamless induction with its primary focus on effective teaching.

Unfinished Business a. Instructional Materials Adoption: Second Reading Moved by Sherm Voiles that the Board adopt the following textbooks for use in the Sumner School District: Seconded by Mike Pavlik. Motion unanimously carried.

New Business a. Capital Facilities Plan At this time each year the District submits an updated Capital Facilities Plan to Pierce County Planning Commission. This update to the plan is required for the District to receive impact fees.

Moved by Mike Pavlik that the Board approve the Capital Facilities Plan as presented: Seconded by Sherm Voiles. Motion unanimously carried. b. New-In-Lieu Replacement Option: Lakeridge Middle School It is required that the District certify per WAC 392-347-042 that the existing facility or space to be replaced will not be used for instructional purposes after the new construction is completed and that the existing facility will be ineligible for any future financial assistance from the state.

Meeting adjourned: 6:35 p.m. Recognition Senior Showcase Bill Gaines, Principal, Sumner High School, and Alysha Barry, 2008 Sumner High School Daffodil Festival Queen, introduced exemplary seniors who have shown the initiative necessary to accomplish their dreams. Students recognized were: Katie Billings, Jordan Daniels, Carly Fitzpatrick, Emily Greene, Keon Javanshir, Nick Larson, Chris Pankalla and Erik Swanson.
