FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: THE ART MUSEUM OF SOUTH TEXAS (AMST) WILL OPEN ITS NEWEST EXHIBITION RECENTLY RETURNED TO AMST FROM THE MOBILE MUSEUM OF ART, Contemporary Masters: Works on Paper from the Collection of the Art Museum of South Texas on July 28th. Exclusively from AMST, this exhibition of 60 works on paper includes pieces by Milton Avery, Luis Jimenez, Judy Chicago, Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt, Ed Ruscha, Andy Warhol, and Salvador Dali as well as three new works to the Museum’s collection and 22 works that have not been previously exhibited at AMST. Works on paper is a popular medium of concentration for many museums, including the Art Museum of South Texas. Of the artists included in the Contemporary Masters exhibition, a significant number are more widely recognized for their work in other media such as painting, sculpture or even glass. What casual museum viewers often fail to recognize is that most artists have excellent skills in the graphic arts and begin their work with drawings before a painting or sculpture. Often these drawings are important works of art, just as important as the other pieces that they may represent.
Exhibitions like Contemporary Masters, as well as AMST’s broad variety of educational programs and resources for kids, adults, families, schools and community groups, enriches the lives of those throughout the region. Take advantage of the jewel of artistic culture right here in Corpus Christi by visiting the Contemporary Masters exhibition on display at AMST through September 15th.
